I Love You (One Shot)
Kojiyuu
"I love you, I really do." Yuko said at the beautiful girl infront of her as she gave her a boquet of red roses. She has said 'I love you' to Haruna a thousand time already yet this one is different. She was nervous but she putted all her effort into this. She have imagined this scenario in her head before, but actually being in here made her feel uneasy. She thought that everything would escalate quickly - NyanNyan would be touched by her effort and they will live happily ever after.
Haruna looked at Yuko, hoping to hear a 'just kidding' from the older girl but nothing came. Kojima was definitely not prepared for a sudden confession, especially if it's from Yuko. She knows that the girl infront of her is serious but Kojima doesn't want to believe what her heart says. She kept on telling herself that Yuko might be just fooling her like she always did. And besides, Yuko always tells her 'i love you', what would make this different from before?
They stared at each other for awhile until Kojima broke off the silence. She closed her heart from the possibilities, and let the fear of being hurt cover her. She gave the boquet of roses back to Yuko.
"I'm sorry," Haruna muttered, trying to avoid any eye contact from the other girl. Yuko on the other hand became shocked. Did her feelings not reach Kojima? Yuko was certain that she have shown her affection everyday, and that Haruna shared the same feelings too despite her going all Tsundere.
"Why NyanNyan ? I -" Yuko said with a tone of sadness and heartbreak in her voice.
"I don't feel the same way, I'm sorry. I only see you as a friend." Haruna said.
Tears formed in Yuko's eyes. Things didn't come like what she have imagined. She lost the bet she was confident in winning, making her suffer it's consequence.
Yuko then looked at Kojima, she could see tears forming in the other girl's eyes too. Yuko regretted her decision, maybe she was the only one who was thinking that there's a chance for the two of them to be together.
"I'm sorry." Yuko said as she pulled her handkerchief from her pocket and wiped the tears on Kojima's eyes. Haruna tried to stop Yuko, but wasn't able to do so.
"Let's forget everything that happened today," Yuko then made a quick peck on Haruna's lips and muttered an 'I'm sorry' before she ran towards the door leaving the empty classroom.
That was their first kiss.
Haruna remained standing beside the window with her index finger on her lips. She hoped in her heart that she made the right decision. She was just protecting Yuko and herself from getting hurt. Tomorrow, She'll act like nothing happened. Yes, this way their friendship won't go to waste.
The rain started pouring little by little. Haruna looked at her watch, it was only 3:00 pm yet it was already dark. She took a deep breath and walked towards the door of their classroom. Upon walking however, something caught her attention, the handkerchief that Yuko used in wiping her tears was on the floor. She picked it up and put it on her pocket then headed home.
Then next day have come, Yuko went to school earlier than usual trying to avoid meeting Haruna on her way there. Sadly, Kojima thought the same way making them go to school together despite their effort on waking up early.
"Ohayou NyanNyan ~" Yuko faked an enthusiastic greeting. She was the one who said that they forget what happened yesterday, but she can't. It's easier to say than to actually do.
"Ah, Yuuchan Ohayou." Kojima greeted back. They tried to walk on different speed but they always ended up having the same pace together. Everything was awkward.
"Did you bring an umbrella?" Kojima asked the girl beside her, trying to start a conversation.
"Eh? What for?" Yuko answered. She looked at the sky and saw nothing, there was no dark clouds forming anyway.
"Idiot. The weatherman said it will rain today."
"We can always share an umbrella NyanNyan" Yuko hugged Kojima instinctively. She paused for a while upon realizing the act she did, then continued doing so. With this, maybe, they could restore what was gone, even only for today.
"Yuko !!!"
Yuko and Haruna heard voices as they entered the school's premises. Sayaka and Sae was there standing, early as usual. From the look of it, Yuko was sure that the two are wondering how things went yesterday and will want to get every detail of it.
"Ohayou." Yuko greeted, trying to put her energy the same as the other two. Sayaka and Sae went beside Yuko, and putted their arms around her.
"So how did it go? oh oh oh, looks like we shouldn't have even asked." The two giggled. Not knowing a bit on how things happened yesterday. They could not make any bad assumptions, since there is no reason for it to not go well.
The squirrel-like girl just gave a heavy sigh and looked at them, then smiled, "huh?"
Kojima who was quitely listening to them flinched a bit. She didn't want to remember the things that happened yesterday, more to talk about it. She wished that they will just stop and move to the next topic.
Sayaka and Sae was confused by the actions of the two. If things didn't go well, then why are they walking to school together? They decided to just ask Yuko about it later once Haruna's gone.
"Have you watched the soccer match yesterday ?" Sae asked.
"Ahh yeah, the soccer match was really cool." Sayaka answered trying to support her buddy. They could now sense the awkward atmosphere between Yuko and Haruna, and litte by little, they too are being sucked by it.
The two kept on talking about nonsense things to lighten up the mood until they reached their respective classrooms. They waved good bye to Haruna who was on a different section. And finally, they breathed well.
"Yuko.." Sayaka said as Yuko approached her seat near the window. No one aside from them was there yet, since it's still early. At a time like this, Sayaka will usually be jogging around the school and do some exercise while Sae would cheer her bestfriend. But today, They know that they have to comfort their friend.
Yuko just smiled, reassuring them that she's okay. But the two were not convinced, they went to Yuko and took a seat beside her.
"You know, you can tell us anything." Sae said as she pinched Yuko's cheeks. Yuko winced in pain and forged a cry.
"Yeah.. we're always here for you." Sayaka seconded as she pinched Yuko's other cheek. "You can cry if you want to, we'll cry along."
"Arigatou." Yuko said as she brushed the hands that's currently pinching her cheeks. She's really grateful for having Sayaka and Sae as her friends.
"You know the bet i made with my parents right?" Yuko continued.
Sayaka and Sae nodded. Ofcourse, they knew it well. Haruna was the only thing that hindered Yuko's decision on going with her parents overseas. Her father was relocated in America so he decided that his family should go there too. Yuko's bet was that if things went well between her and Haruna then she'll stay.
"We'll be leaving tomorrow." Yuko then hugged the two, not minding the table between them. She started to cry, She'll surely miss them.
"Baka, we'll meet again right ? It's not like you won't be returning." Sae said, trying to stopher tears.
"Three years are not long." Sayaka added,
"Wasn't that supposed to be Five ?" Sae asked.
"Don't prolong it Sae-chan ~" Yuko broke the hug and lightly punched Sae's shoulder.
They looked at the sky through the window, and stayed like that as they waited for their class to start. They didn't want this to end. The three of them looking at the same sky together, It's perfect.
"I wonder if things would still be the same after 3 years." Yuko asked.
"No no no no no, Sayaka would be full of muscles by then." Sae joked making Yuko laugh at the mere thought.
"Ofcourse, i'll follow my dream !" Sayaka said proudly. "I'll be Japan's number 1 wrestler of woman's division !"
"Then i'll be a famous soccer player," Sae said.
"No you don't. You just want girls to fawn over you." Sayaka argued.
"But that's my dream !" Sae defended. This type of talk is usual to them, it never lead to a huge fight but it deepens their relationship. Yuko giggled at the sight of her friends teasing each other, she'll miss this.
"You should follow your dream too Yuko," Sayaka said as she looked at Yuko who was giggling to herself.
"Yeah," Yuko answered even though she's not sure anymore of what her dream is.
Time passed by and classes are dismissed. Yuko immediately fixed her things, and went outside the room. She told Sayaka and Sae to wait for her on the gate since she'll do something first. She went to the room beside theirs and looked for Haruna. Unfortunately, the girl have already left.
Before she go, Yuko wanted to tell Haruna that she's grateful meeting her. And being her friend and all. Even though her confession didn't end well, Haruna, after all, was still her friend. And it will never change. . She didn't want the failed confession to be her last memory of her.
Yuko looked everywhere but still haven't find Haruna. She decided that she'll just go to Haruna's house later. She then went to the gate to find Sayaka and Sae waiting for her, She apologized for delaying them.
"Yuko, what time is your flight tomorrow?" Sae asked as she lend Yuko her handkerchief since Yuko was sweating heavily due to the finding the girl made.
"9 am." Yuko answered, breathing fastly.
"Is it okay if we come to the airport with you ?" Sayaka asked. No matter what the answer Yuko would say, the two would surely go anway.
"Of course.. but.. you'll absent ?"
"Of course not ! there're other ways." The two winked at her.
Then, they met the path that separated them. Yuko went to the left while the two went to the right. They bid each other goodbye and walked forward.
"Tadaima" Yuko said upon entering their house. Her parents are busy preparing for their flight tomorrow.
"Why don't you take a rest Yuko?" Oshimama said upon seeing Yuko. Her daughter looked tired.
"Go fixe your things later," Oshipapa added.
The two thought that Yuko would stay before, Their daughter had a strong firm on not wanting to go overseas since Haruna and her bestfriends are here, but ofcourse they know that it was mainly about Haruna. Their daughter's eyes always sparkled whenever she talks about her friend. Their suspiscion about Yuko being inlove with the girl grew when their daughter brought Haruna in their home. At first they thought it was just a one-sided love, but as they saw the interaction the two was having, their perception changed. They,of course, doesn't want their daughter to be involve with such kind of relationship, but they only wished for Yuko to be happy. And they saw Yuko's happiness whenever she's with Haruna. So Yuko's decision about going with them was a surprise, since it means that Haruna rejected their daughter - something unexpected.
Yuko lay down on her bed and looked at the clock, it was only 5:00 pm, she'll wake up at 7, go to Haruna's house then fix her things. She closed her eyes and thought of Haruna. She thought whether things would still be the same if she hadn't confessed to Haruna. Nah, maybe it's better this way. At least, Haruna wouldn't get confused by Yuko's everyday action towards her.
"You should follow your dreams too, Yuko" She heard Sayaka's advice as she fell as sleep.
The sun started to rise making it's rays come to the sleeping girl's bed. Yuko opened her eyes and immediately checked the clock, it's only 6:00 am. She'll just fix her things at 6:30. Wait, something's wrong. Yuko paused for awhile, she knows that something is not right. Yes ! She stood up, she remembered that she's supposed to go to Haruna's house and bid good bye but she fell asleep.
Yuko checked the clock again, it's 6:03 am there's still more time. She changed her clothes, and went outside. She was only at their gate when the rain started to pour. Was this an omen ?
Yuko went to her room and decided to fix her things, She sorted everything out and waited for the rain to stop. The rain kept pouring for another hour, She needs to go with her parents to the airport now. Maybe this is the end of the love story that didn't even started.
"Yuko, get down with your things" Oshimama knocked at her daughter's room. "Eat breakfast now."
Yuko followed her Mother's call and headed down stairs. She ate the bread and took a sip of coffee, then looked at her parents. They looked happy about the trip, especially that Yuko too, will be going.
"Yuko, you can eat breakfast along the way,"Oshipapa signaled as they went to the taxi waiting for them outside their house.
"Are your things complete?" Oshimama asked, Yuko and Oshipapa nodded in unison. They entered the taxi and bidded good bye to the house where they spent their whole life in.
"Ohayou" Kojima greeted Sayaka and Sae who's currently running in the hallway, It's only 8:00 am, too early for their breaktime. And.. Yuko was not with them.
"Ahhh, Kojima-san Ohayou !" Sayaka and Sae greeted back, they stopped running and went to Kojima who's currently sharpening a pencil.
"Haruna please do us a favor,Please be our watchout." The two bowed their heads, Haruna became confused, watchout for what ? She have a guess that it's about Yuko who didn't appeared today. And it's not good.
"Eh? About what?"
"You don't know? Yuko will be leaving today."
"Leaving ?"
"Yeah, she's going to america with her parents today at 9:00 am."
Kojima stopped. Why didn't Yuko tell her about this ? Wait. If Yuko was going today, then why did she confess ? Sayaka and Sae knew what's going on with Kojima's head, but time is running. They grabbed Kojima's hands and made her run with them.
"Haruna, You should come with us! Yuko would be sad if she wasn't able to see you before she leave." Sayaka said, still running. Teachers saw them but ignored it, maybe the three are doing exercise, Sayaka is with them anyway.
"Wh-Why ?"
"Idiot ! She loves you !"
"I know !"
"You love her too right ! go for it !"
"I -" Kojima stopped running, Yes, she loves Yuko too. But that wouldn't change the fact that Yuko will be going abroad right ?
"Don't think ! Just do it !" They have reached the gate. The guard is not there, maybe patrolling.
"Haruna, Everything's up to you. We'll be your look out instead, besides Yuko have already bid us good bye yesterday." Sae said as they pushed Haruna to the gate.
"We'll tell the teachers that your having a diarrhea and have to go home" Sayaka added,
"A-arigatou." Haruna said, still unsure of what she's doing. She reached for her pocket and held the handkerchief that Yuko used in wiping her tears.
"Come what may," She thought.
She ran towards the Taxi lane, but there were no Taxi in there, She checked her watch, It's now 8:15 am. Yuko will be leaving at 9, she hoped that she will manage to see the squirrel girl. Then, she ran towards the highway, maybe she'll just hitch-hike or what. There, she saw a Cab. She signaled the driver,
"To the nearest airport please." Kojima said, She didn't know the airport where Yuko will go. But there's this one airport in Tokyo that could be where the girl currently is. The taxi started to move, Haruna checked her watch again, It's now 8:17.
"How long will the drive be ?" Kojima asked.
"40 mins. if traffic, 30 if not." The driver said cooly,
Kojima looked at the sky, Yuko always loved to look at it. If Haruna putted aside her cowardice, would things have changed ? Will Yuko stay? or is it better to be like this, Besides, if she told Yuko that she loved her back, then separation like this would be much painful right ? But 'what ifs' didn't matter anymore. Everything happened already, She's now inside a taxi going to the unsure airport.
Truly, the value of someone or something increases or becomes realized more when it's about to be gone. Kojima noticed that the sky was turning dark, she wasn't able to watch the forecast today. She wasn't able to bring an umbrella.
30 minutes have passed, There was no traffic.. 12 minutes. Kojima have arrived in her destination. She gave the driver money and headed to the entrance of the airport.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for someone who's flight's going to America at 9:00 am." Haruna asked the information clerk.
"America? What part of America?" The lady answered looking smug.
"Her name is Yuko Oshima. She have this cute dimples and all."
"Yuko Oshima... Since the flight is 9:00," The looked at the clock, it was already 8:54. "She must be inside the plane now."
Kojima's world shuttered for an instant. She shouldn't have went here in the first place. She quietly went to the chairs in the waiting area and sat there. It was now 8:56, 4 minutes left.
There's still hope, maybe ? She did something she never thought she'd do. She ran to the checkpoint, pass the security guard who tried to chase her. One More, she thought. Now there are two guards who's chasing her. Sooner or later they'll catch her. But as of now, she'll do her best to see Yuko. She finally made it to the port where the airplanes are. She stopped for a moment, it's impossible to see her.
It was now 8:59, she noticed a plane that started moving. Yuko must be there, she thought. She waved her hands hoping that Yuko would see her. The guards are now there, she hoped that she won't be featured in the newspaper tomorrow with an embarrassing headline.
"Sorry," Kojima bowed at the security guards infront of her. It was not the first time for the guards to witness this, but a beautiful lady trying to pass the security? What the hell is going on.
"I just wanted to bidy goodbye to my friend.. guess it's too late." She smiled, tears started to fall in her cheeks, there's no Yuko to wipe them anymore. She reached for the handkerchief Yuko used, and wiped her tears.
"You might think this is not a big deal but it actually is. You have to report to the office now." The first guard said as they lead Kojima to the office.
"Sorry," Kojima bowed Again.
After a series of reports and sermons, Kojima was freed, It's now 9:40. It's useless. She exited the airport, and went to the school. Another nagging would happen for sure. The rain was pouring very hard.
After another 30 minutes, she reached the school. It's the time for their first break, Lucky, she thought, She can change her uniform. Usually, on breaktimes, Yuko and her would eat together, maybe it's a time for change. She should be used in eating alone now.
Haruna entered the gate, She didn't brought an umbrella and let the rain pour on her. She should've go home instead.
"I hope she's happy." Kojima thought.
Suddenly, the rain stopped pouring on her body. She looked at the sky and saw an umbrella.
"The weatherman said that it will rain today," A familiar voice said. Haruna knew that voice completely, but why ?
"I thought you'll forget to bring your umbrella." It added, Haruna looked back, It was Yuko. The perverted squirrel who confessed to her.
"Yuko.."
"Sayaka and Sae said that you followed me to the airport. Kawaii ~" Yuko teased, and signaled Haruna to start walking.
"I-ie.. the handkerchief.. I just want to give it back. Baka.." Haruna said blushing. "Why are you even here ?"
"I thought that a certain Kojima Haruna may miss me."
"I never said I love you." Kojima said still blushing. They reached the locker area,
"It's okay, I Love you."
"I know."
"I Love you NyanNyan, I really do. And i don't care if you don't love me back as of now even though i know you already do. I'll make you admit it."
