A request with 2-3 parts
Switched“Nana-chan~”
Hearing the whiny voice, Okada Nana sighed at her. She had been looking over her homework for the fifth time as she scanned for mistakes. Hitting the backspace button, Nana was quick to find something grammatically wrong or so she thought, coming with the variations of the sentences in her head.
“Hmm, should I use finish or complete for this one?” Nana muttered, as the third call, broke the barrier between the work and the girl hanging her head over the bed’s edge.
“What is it, Miki? Don’t you have the assignment to do?” Nana groaned.
Nishino Miki turned onto her stomach as she realized the project was due in a few days but getting majority of the research done had given her a bit of free time pondering over the issues. She had only come over to play with Nana but with her occupied with the paper, she felt compelled about starting without thinking about a plan.
“I do… but I can’t think of a good way to start it.” Miki moaned as she hit the bed with her hands before the random object had contacted her hand. “itaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai!”
“Stop over reacting!” Nana warned. “It is only a pencil. It isn’t like you had to eat bugs.”
Nana heard her stop the crying. It hurt that Miki was never good at anything was forced to eat bugs on the show. It was an act for the most part but that was her way to shine despite not being the greatest at anything else. Miki held her hand and lowered it to her side as she stood and glanced at the table.
“Do you like anyone?” Miki asked, slanting her eyes to her partner.
“What do you mean by that?” Nana responded with her finger scanning the page on her screen.
“I mean… like anyone in team 4… I mean you must have a crush on someone.” Miki began to pose the question in the obvious terms.
Nana straightened up and glanced over. The stare gave her answer to the clueless girl. Nana had held everyone to the same standard although she would hang out with her teammates and Yuria and Miichan were well-respected but no one she could place herself with. She turned back and pressed the button combination before closing down her computer.
“Let’s go to the café.” Nana said out loud with a gleeful response squeaking out of Miki’s mouth.
“Will you tell me your crush?” Miki grinned.
“No!” She deadpanned. “Before you continue, I don’t have anybody.”
Miki nodded as she grabbed the purple gem from the stand. She wasn’t sure why it was there with a layer of dust upon it. It meant a lot to her as part of the friendship she had with her and Mako-chan. She had the pink gem while Mako had the red. It was a representation of their hearts and always seeing her as the darkest of the gems had made her sigh, gripping the item in the hand.
“I see… I have a lot of them.” Miki commented with a smile, slipping the gem into her pocket.
Nana had always been blunt about everything she does. She can be loose but most times when she was stressed, Nana showed her serious side to shield the problems. Mako was the open one who had shown her emotions on her sleeve. Miki followed with the happy-go-lucky attitude and supported each of them when they faced their issues. Miki also had been the one to pick out the gems when they were up and coming and gave them their unique colors.
“It’s horrible that I have the project due.” Nana groaned as they took their seat at the café.
“Maybe a little time away will free your thoughts.” Miki suggested as she rolled the stones in her pocket.
“I guess so…” Nana sighed as she looked at the laminated paper in front of her. “Is there anything you want? I’ll treat.”
“Let me see.” Miki curled the corner of her lips.
She had been to the café numerous times. Most of the time was with Mako on her days off but it was a rare occasion when Nana would offer her gratitude toward anyone. Miki knew she wasn’t selfish, just a conservative when it came to offering. She scanned the menu and saw the pieces of cake but she felt compelled to run it by Nana first before blurting out the order.
“How about the meal set?” Miki suggested as Nana threw a glance.
“It’s fine…” Nana scanned the menu. “Add the extra cake, chocolate? What about the tea?”
“Honey lavender?”
“Sure.” Nana threw out the happy expression.
Miki nodded as the male with a hunched back came and took the order on the small pad. He tried to straighten up for them but the body seemed to fail as he jotted down the order and left with a curt nod. Miki took out the two gems and threw them onto the table, moving the purple one to her.
“What is this about?” Nana asked, raising her eyebrow at the gems. “You wanted pink.”
“I know… but I like purple better and you haven’t been carrying it around as of late.” Miki explained as Nana laser in her direction.
“I don’t like having it with me because I don’t want it to get lost and it has been good luck when I haven’t been in possession of it.” Nana explained as Miki pushed it back in the middle. “You can take it if you want to.”
Miki scooted it back to her side. She didn’t like how the look was sent to her but felt relieved she had gave it to her. Purple was an aura color and hearing how she was always a purple had given her hope that it would give her good luck eventually. She left the pink gem on the table as Nana snatched it from her sight.
Miki glanced around before walking away from the table and headed toward the kitchen. She took a sharp right turn and into the bathroom as she took out the dusty, violet gem from her pocket and gripped it tightly. She imagined how much confidence it had given her before tilting her head to the wall and letting out a squeal. Miki rushed to the toilet paper and hit the roll as it unspun to the floor below. She rolled whatever she could before the wet floor had soaked up the majority and with the small amount she finished her business and walked out with little concern for the mess on the floor.
The table was set with the teapot and two white ceramic cups with circles drawn upon them on the exterior. Miki took her seat as she stared inside the cup finding a black mark at the bottom. Nana rubbed upon the mark on her cup to notice the design had been set and lowered her cup to the table. Miki turned to the small cake cut in quarters, partitioned by the thin pieces of parchment paper.
“Shall I start pouring for you?” Nana asked, grabbing the teapot.
The girl didn’t reply with her cup placed in the middle of the table. Nana poured it until it reached ¾ of the cup and placed the pot down. She glared at Miki, knowing the concern had grown as she picked it up. The heat had made her hands nervous as she tipped the spout forward, gently going toward the cup. Miki saw her eyes turn away quickly as she poured it to the halfway point before gently tilting the teapot back to the original position.
Miki slid the cup over and grabbed the tongs for the piece of cake. She handed the first piece over and then served herself. Nana nodded observantly before sipping the tea for the smooth flavor running down her throat.
“This cake is good.” Miki spoke softly, placing a piece into her mouth.
“Indeed.” Nana replied.
“I didn’t want to say it from before but…” Miki saw her eyes shot to her. “How would you start a paper about the samurai?”
Miki knew the tirades of words were going to come. It seemed setup to wait for the verbal attack but Nana took another sip and cut into the piece of cake. Miki reached out for the tea when she saw her eyes and felt the change instantly as her eyes turned to the pot with Nana’s hand touching the handle.
“What’s happening?!?!?!”
