CHAPTER 10
“Mhmm…”
Paruru nods her head for the 48th time that morning as she listens to Miyuki’s narration of her cyber friend/crush/her potential future lover called Matsui Sayaka. She steals a glance to her wristwatch, making out the time for her “lunch date” with her angel …
“My angel…?” A smile unconsciously appear on her face. “Not bad, Paruru… Not bad at all.”
“NO! IT IS BAD! I can’t stop thinking about him, it’s making me crazy! I mean… He hasn’t reply my text for two days already!”
The slightly raised volume of Miyuki had woke Paruru from her reveries of her imaginary angel, Yui. She quickly stood up and clamp her friend’s mouth with her palm. She glares at her friend, making eye signals at her for making a commotion in the cafe. She turns around with a forced smile, bowing apologetically at the people staring and whispering at them for the noise.
“What the heck, Milky?” She hissed at the frowning Miyuki, “Slow down your voice a bit!”
“Oh I will slow down my voice… If only you would listen to my story instead of daydreaming!”
“I can’t help it… I have my own love story too.”
“Huh?” Miyuki raised a brow, “What do you mean?”
“Remember that idol friend of yours? Sayanee, was it?”
“Yes? What about her....” GASP! “Don’t tell me… You like her, Paruru?!”
“Whaaat?!”
“Eeeeh?!”
Again, all eyes turn to them.
“HUSH! Quiet down will you.”
“Sorry…” Miyuki makes a peace pose with a forced smile, “So you’re saying… you like Sayanee?”
“Don’t be ridiculous! My angel is way better and prettier than her!”
“Heeeh? Your angel? Wait. Who is this… angel? Is it human?”
“Duh… Her friend, of course! Yokoyama Yui-san!”
“Haaaah?! Yui-san?”
“Yep! Oh, look at the time! I need to go, Milky!”
“Ehh? But what about…”
“Hey, look… I know you’re going through a hard time with this, Sayaka person, whoever that is. But things will work out for the best if both of you are destined to be together.”
“Really, Paru…?”
“Yeah! Exactly like what happened to me and Yui-san… It was all because of the destiny of our love that I got to meet her again~”
“Alright, alright… Just go already!” Miyuki waves her hand, dismissing Paruru to leave.
“Sorry, Milky! Let’s meet another day, okay? See ya!”
“I’ll be looking forward for that!”
Paruru’s POVI happily walk along the street with a little skip in my steps as I rushed through the huddle of people. If this is a PV, I’d probably be the happy-go-lucky main girl who don’t have a care of the world at all with everyone else watching gloomily and enviously at me. Everything is perfect for a love song video! Well… except for the lack of the main character, my one and only true love.
“Ehehehehe…”
Talk about love, I took out the picture I’ve been keeping in my pocket as my charm. Yep! I made Yui-san’s picture as my good luck charm. I’m not that creepy, am I? I mean, her picture was the reason I got to have my own exhibition… which is also the reason I get to meet her again. A wide grin unconsciously appeared on my face as the scene on the cafe the other day played in my head...
Flashback...I giggled with the view in front of me. Sayaka and Milky does look good as a couple. I mean, the calm and cool-looking Sayaka with the pretty, cute and talkative Milky? PERFECT! But I noticed something weird going on with Sayaka after she asked us who is “Milky”. I was about to ask her what’s wrong when suddenly, a presence of someone came from the corner of my eyes.
PAK!I turned my head to the sound with wide eyes and hanging mouth. The loud sound of the smack/slap/hit had caught me baffled, thinking who on earth would dare to do that to the great Sayaka in front of many people in this cafe.
“OWW!!!” Sayaka hissed out loud.
“Must you do that?!” Sayaka said with raised voice, a hand rubbing her already swollen head.
“Oh… that?” I raise my head, only to feel my heart starting to beat harder. “That’s for ordering me around!”
It’s like eureka… you know? When you’ve been searching for the answer of something for the rest of your life and suddenly, poof! It appears before you like magic! That’s what happening here. The person I’ve been searching for all this while is actually standing in front of me, in the flesh! I want to say something… anything. But the shock is too shocking, there’s not even a shocking word coming out from my mouth or even any shocking reaction happening with my body. I was just too happy to see her, I start to have some kind of a spasmodic reaction that makes me turn stone all over.
“But do you really need to hit that hard?! It seriously hurts a lot! What happen if I can’t write any song anymore…” Sayaka whines, my eyes still can’t move away from her.
“Whoaa… You look like you’re ticked off by something. Care to let me join your table, Sayanee?”
“Yeah, yeah… just sit.” I squealed internally, my body is still in a numb state from shock as the chair beside me was pulled by her.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you ladies her-...”
Wait! I need the remote controller! Where is it… Ah! Pause!
Let’s replay it in a slow-mo action, shall we?
As she was greeting us, our eyes suddenly met in the most romantically way I can ever see. She turned her head to my direction, her long black hair flipping together like a breeze of the wind, her eyes as gentle as I’ve seen her for the first time and that warm but enticing smile that never failed to melt my heart again and again.
Haaaaah~
Okaaay, that’s enough entertainment. Now let’s play it normally.
“It is you…!” I unashamedly pointed my finger to her direction, unaware of the obvious excitement shown on my face as I can finally speak out what has been on my mind since my eyes had fall on her magical and unexpected presence.
“It’s you, too!”
“Wait… you know me?” I should be gasping like a fangirl, but I keep it inside. I mean, I gotta keep it cool or she’ll think I’m a weirdo or something…
“Yeah… Well, not that I know like really know you for real but I know that I know you.” She tried to explain, which only got everyone confused all over again… me included, of course. “Hold on. How did you know me, actually?”
Before I could even reply her question, an interruption came from a midget whom I supposed is a friend of her.
“Opps! Aaah!!! I’m sorry for-...” She accidentally bumped on to someone. But when she turns around to apologize, her face immediately fallen. “Oh no…”
“EEEH? YOU AGAIN, MIDGET?!” I see Maeda-sensei, the one she bumped, furiously screaming on the short girl.
I quickly approached Maeda-sensei who’s pointing her hand rudely at the midget. “Maeda-sensei… You know her?” I asked.
“Of course…” She glowers above the midget who’s a bit shorter. “The pervert who unashamedly touched my butt earlier.”
“H-HEY! I DID NOT! IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!!”
“Oh, yeah? Prove it… midget.”
Suddenly, a voice could be heard.
“What did you do this time Takamina-san?” It was Yui-san speaks out.
“WHAT? N-nothing.” The midget person called Takamina scratched her cheek in an uneasy way as she avoids Yui-san’s stare.
“LIAR!” Maeda-san crossed her arms in an arrogant way, making the poor Takamina-san to look at her with wide eyes and mouth.
“Wa-.. Wha- I DID NOT!I did not... do it on purpose.” Takamina-san slowly averts her view to the ground, mumbling the last words.
“Heeh… Now you’re admitting that you did touched my butt earlier.” Maeda-sensei sent a small smirk as she points at the glaring Takamina-san.
“I did but… it is not on purpose.”
“Whatever you say, hentai.”
“W-what did you just call me?”
“Just your name…” Maeda-sensei draws her face closer with an intimidating smirk to the fuming midget, “...HENTAI.”
“Why you…”
“What? You wanna touch my butt again, butt grabber?”
“B-B-Butt grabber?!” Takamina-san was balling her fist in anger. I don’t know if I should stop them or not cause this is actually entertaining.
“Pffft! Butt grabber… Seriously, Takamina?”
“Not you too, Yui!” Takamina-san was about to grab Yui-san’s collar, but she merely raise a brow before getting in the between these two.
“Okay okaaay! Settle down, you adult ladies acting like a pair of stucked up kids who had missed their childhood life…”
Everyone turned to Yui-san as she stood in between Maeda-sensei and the midget… I mean, short girl. No! Takamina-san! Yeah, yeah… I should really try to make an effort to remember people’s names from now on.
“Seriously, Takamina… Be more civilised towards the beautiful lady, alright?”
“Wha… Hold on! Why am I the one being blamed here?”
Yui-san ignored her whining friend as she turned around to face my sensei… And my tingling senses are telling me that this is not gonna be good.
“And you!” Yui-san points her finger on Maeda-sensei. “What gives you the right to call Takamina a hentai?”
“Uhh… excuse me?” Maeda-sensei gave her a look.
“Yeah I know she’s a bit of an ecchi towards beautiful people… even the fortune-teller agrees to that.” Yui smirks with a wiggle of her eyebrows.
“OYY!!!”
“But she has her own purpose for doing that, you know?”
“Huh?” Maeda-sensei, including all of us, tilted our head confusingly as Takamina harshly pulls Yui-san to face her.
“Yui, what the heck are you doing?!”
“Wait, just shut up Takamina! Let me handle this, okay?” Yui-san quickly put a smile on her face before it turned serious.
“And what might this purpose be…?” Maeda-sensei asked slowly with a hint of curiosity. However, Yui-san answered back with a straight face.
“Takamina has a crush on you.”
“EEEEEHHHHH???!!!”
End of Flashbacks…I keep on smiling as I keep on walking, probably not in the conscious mind to realize that I’m about to be rolled over by a fast-speeding truck. Only by the loud honking sound that my mind finally grasped the situation I’m about to face. My eyes widen at the incoming truck as flashes of the day I met Yui-san keep on playing like a broken screenplay before my eyes.
Is this it…?
Does my fate with Yui-san will end today?
Don’t I have another chance to meet her?
No….
No way!
I want to meet her again.
Aitakatta...I want to tell her...
Aitakatta...I want to meet you again.
Aitakatta… YES!Yui-san!
Kimi niii~“YUI-SAAAAN!!!”
I braced myself for the hit, only to feel my body being pulled into a strong embrace.
“Gotcha!”
I blinked my eyes a few times, still in shocked that I had just barely been spared another life. However, as my sight focused at the face of my saviour, I feel like my soul had actually left my body.
I died.
Okay that was an exaggeration.
As I open my eyes, the face of my saviour appeared. It was Yui-san. I can’t help the blush appearing on my cheeks as I stare at her cool-looking face in a close proximity. Her gentle but worried-looking eyes looking back at me...
“Hey… you okay?”
Oh that voice… the voice I’ve been longing to hear. I wonder if she can sing...
“Hey. Answer me.”
“My hero… my angel.”
“Oh, damn. She’s got a mental problem… Just great, Yui. Just great!”
“Eh? Wait... Excuse me?”
“Finally, she can speak!” Yui-san exclaimed in a grateful way, “You can see me, right? You’re not hit on the head or anything, do you? Are you hurt?”
“Ummm… I don’t think so?”
“Can you feel anything?”
“I… can feel your warm body.”
Okaaaay I did not just said that! I can feel Yui-san’s penetrating gaze as she stare at me weirdly. Is that blush on her face? Aww, cute. Wait… Geez! Way to go, Paruru! Now I regret for embarrassing myself instead of getting hit by that truck. At least I’ll get an amnesia or something…
“You do realize I’m holding you closely, right?”
I nod, my eyes looking everywhere except her face.
“And you do realize that everyone is staring at us like we’re in a romance play of some sort… right?”
I look around, and that’s when my face instantly heats up. In reflex, I pulled Yui-san closer as I hide my face in her chest.
“Whoa whoa! W-what’s wrong…?”
I shake my head, not budging from the position. I can hear Yui-san sighing before she pats my head.
“Hey…”
I raised my head, taking a peek from her chest.
“I don’t mind getting chummy and skinship with a stranger, but can we at least get to know each other with a coffee or some pies...? You do remember our date, right?”
“Oh… Oh, sure!”
I reluctantly let go of her, fixing my wrinkled clothes while hiding my blushing face.
“I hope you didn’t get a memory loss or something…”
“Oh, no! I’m definitely alright, Yui-san!”
“Good.” Yui-san smiled at me before turning around to walk ahead. “Spare me the pain for another introduction.”
Right there, right then, I was stupefied. The way she smiled… That was the first time she ever smiled at me. I can feel my chest pounding, my stomach whirling like I’m about to puke rainbows.
“You coming?”
“Y-yes!”
I quickly run to her side. The fluttering feeling in my chest didn’t stop as we walk along side by side without any words, not that I’m gonna complain. Just to have another chance to live and meet with Yui-san again… I’m truly content with this.
“So where do you want to go?”
Anywhere you like as long as you are beside me.
Eek! When did I became such a cheesy person?
“E-em… anywhere you li-”
GROWL…Umm… was that me? Ugh! Just great, you hungry stomach! Second major embarrassment for me, thank you!
“Pfft…” I turn to Yui-san with a pout as she tries to muffle a laugh with her hands. Realizing I’m looking at her, she clears her throat before putting a straight face again. “Looks like I know just the right place to go, thanks to your stomach.”
“I-I’m so sorry!” I apologize as I looked away in embarrassment.
“Nah, it's okay. I’m getting hungry too. Let’s go have lunch.”
During lunch…Yui’s POVI was just getting to my fourth bite when the sound of chopsticks and spoon clanging on the plate caught my attention.
“Ahhh! That’s really good!”
Whoa… Where did all those food disappeared to? Cause I definitely didn’t find any remains on her slim body.
“Uhh… you sure are hungry.”
“I skipped breakfast this morning, that’s why.”
“You want to order anything else?”
“No, it’s fine. I’m good already. I’m not such a big eater.”
Uh huh. No way I’m gonna believe that. Not after what I just witnessed...
“You sure? I’m paying for you here.”
“Yep! I’m definitely sure!”
“Okay…” Less spending for me. Yay!
She gave that sweet smile again before slurping her milkshake. I shook my head a bit, trying an attempt to finish my meal just like she did, which is entirely impossible for me! I’m enjoying my meal, chewing the content carefully and slowly just to relish the rich flavors. Yeah… I’m weird but that’s just because I am a cheapskate.
No, I am. Trust me in this.
I keep on chewing when I feel a pair of eyes following my every action. I sneakily look up in between my long bangs, finding Paruru looking intently at me with hands under her chin. She is currently watching me eating with a smile on her face. How awkward is that?
“What?”
“You sure take your time finishing the sandwich.”
Yep. Told ya I’m a cheap person.
“You only live once. Enjoy everything you can. That’s my motto.”
“Even with the cheapest sandwich in the menu?”
“If it’s labelled as food, then yes.”
“I was right.” Paruru giggled as I give her a weird look.
“What was?”
“That you are interesting.”
Errr… what is this? Why do I feel like this girl is trying to do something else instead of being a friend? I’m starting to feel like she is too creepy for my liking. This is bad. I should plan an escape.
“Well, you are creepy.”
Hah! Take that! I bet she’ll be crying soon and I’ll leave the place happily without worrying a bit about this Paruru girl. Nyahahaha-
“I guess I am…”
WHAT?!
I stare at her incredulously as she rubs her neck in embarrassment. What the heck? She should be crying instead of getting flustered! My mind was about to rake for any unused Plan B but it suddenly shut down when Paruru looked straight at me with a blush apparent on her face.
“I guess I’m only weird... when I’m with you, Yui-san.”
Oh my.
This girl… will be the death of me.
-----------------------------
Rena’s POVI wipe the streak of tears flowing down my cheeks for the nth time that day. I’ve been locking myself in the room since last night… The night that I once again hurt my friend for the second time. I never knew Jurina’s been keeping everything by herself. Why do I have to be such a jerk to her? I don’t deserve a friend like her…
Flashback…I run out of the house in hope I can catch up with them despite the heavy rain falling down on me. My view was blurred, but the loud shouting of Jurina’s name from Sayaka made my ears more sensitive to the surrounding. I followed her voice. I don’t care about the damn rain. I don’t care if my clothes are drenched. I don’t care if I’m going to be sick tomorrow. I just want to see Jurina and make things right again. Yes… I need to save our friendship no matter what.
“Jurina! Stop!”
I can hear Sayaka’s shouting becoming louder and clearer. I know I’m a weak runner, but somehow hearing Jurina’s name had given some strength for me to keep on running despite the numbness I’m already feeling from cold and exhaustion.
“Jurina, wait!”
“Leave me alone!”
My pace slowed after I’m sure that both of them were just around the corner of the street. I was about to approached them but stopped when I heard Jurina’s desperate voice.
“Go away, Sayanee! I don’t need anyone… No one cares about me. I’ve had enough!”
“Hey, Jurina… Don’t say like that. Come on…”
“No! I’m tired of listening… I’m tired of having to follow what others said! What about my feelings, huh? Can’t everyone at least consider my feelings for once? I’m a human too, damn it!”
I stayed behind the walls, listening to every of Jurina’s screaming and shouting with breaking heart. I gulp, wiping my wet face from the tears and droplets of rain. I didn’t know Jurina has been keeping everything to herself. I didn’t know Jurina was suffering just as everyone else is… She’s right. Jurina is a human too. Even a cold person has a heart.
“Why can’t everyone see I’m doing my best to keep everything together? Why can’t they see I’m trying my best for everyone? Why does everyone hates me, huh?!”
“Hey, that’s not-...”
“Don’t say that! Don’t you ever try to make me feel good, Sayanee… Cause I know! I know they all hate me just as I hate myself!”
“Jurina, stop it…”
“And now you’re telling what I’m supposed to do, huh? Great… All I need to do is follow what everyone tells me. Is that it? Don’t I have the right to do what I want?!”
“Jurina…”
“I’m tired of sacrificing my feelings for others. You know what I got for helping Tani to get into the band? For buying that keyboard for her? For letting her live in my house with her senpai? Nothing. NOTHING AT ALL! I thought I can at least get her or Rena’s trust, but I got none of it! In fact, they just hate me more!”
No way… So it was all because of Jurina? Tani got in because of…
I closed my eyes, unconsciously biting my lips from guilt. Why can’t you tell me, Jurina? Why can’t you just be straightforward instead of doing things your way? I’m such a fool for falling with her cold front…
“And now Rena brought that guy into my house… Heh, what a joke. Is this some kind of revenge or something? Why does she have to trust that jerk instead of me, huh?! Am I that worthless of a friend that she can’t even understand what I’m trying to tell her?! Does she hate me that much…? Why does she have to bring HIM to see me after I finally can move on from the past!”
I put a hand on my mouth as I cried from Jurina’s outburst. I never knew bringing Airi would hurt her this much. I thought everything was going to be fine. I was just trying to help us mend our friendship back...
“You know what, Sayanee? I really hate her… I really hate Rena for making me feel like this!”
CRACKLE!The sound of thunder booms in the air, together with the sound of my heart being cracked. I slowly turns around, making my way back to the apartment without any life in me. Tears continue to flow down my cheeks together with the rain. I don’t have the strength to wipe them, even if my eyesights are blurred. I looked up the sky, ignoring the sting I felt from the stray rain getting into my already burning eyes.
What have we done that you need to punish us like this, Kami-sama?
I closed my eyes, hoping I could stop the tears and guilt. But it just made it worse as I can only see the crying face of Jurina behind my closed eyelids. Mayu was wrong… Jurina doesn’t need me at all. She hates me.
“I’m sorry, Jurina…”
Since that day, my time has stopped
Two streams of tears
Roll down your cheeks
“It’s the endless, incessant rain’s fault,”
The sounds of love sing
End of Flashbacks...Tears continue to flow down my eyes like a broken dam. I bury my face into the soft pillow, hoping I could stop the tears. But the smell of Jurina is too strong, it’s starting to choke the life out of me.
I don’t deserve this…
I don’t deserve Jurina’s kindness...
I don’t deserve Jurina…
Suddenly, a knocking sound came from the door. I ignore it, knowing full well who’s behind the door.
“Rena-senpai…?”
I tighten my hold on the bolster, not minding the constant calling of my name for the past few hours.
“Rena-senpai, you haven’t eaten anything since morning…”
I don’t care about eating. I don’t care about anything. I don’t want to care about anything. All I bring is sorrow to everyone around me, I don’t want anyone to care about me.
“Rena-senpai, please… I brought your dinner.”
“Go away!”
I shouted in hope Tani would leave me alone. I waited for a while, feeling slightly relieved that she’s gone. However, her voice came in a quiet, muffled way.
“Okay… But I just wanted to say… I’m sorry, senpai.”
I got up to the door, opening it harshly as it revealed a guilty-looking Tani on the other side.
“Sorry? What are you sorry for?”
“I… I don’t know. I just wanted to say… I’m sorry.”
“Oh, I know why. It’s because you always act before you think. Like what happened last night! I’ve told you many times before, Tani… Stop meddling with other people’s affair!”
End of Rena’s POVTani lowered her head as the words from her beloved senpai cut her deep inside. She was scared… Scared and frustrated. Rena had never raised her voice when talking to her. Now, seeing her senpai getting all furious because of her, Tani can feel her inferiority complex kicking in. She grips her fists tightly as Rena continue to reprimand her with what happened last night. It wasn’t her fault… It wasn’t her fault at all so why must she be blamed?
“What were you thinking, Tani? To meddle with our problems is one thing, but slapping Jurina…? Are you out of your mind?!”
“But she was saying bad things about you, Rena-senpai! I can’t stand it!”
“I don’t care! She can say whatever she wants to me... It’s my problem, not yours! ”
“I was trying to help…”
“Well, great! You just make things worse for me and Jurina.”
Having enough of the blaming, Tani raised her head and face Rena with a scowl.
“Why… why are you blaming me? It was actually your fault, senpai! Why do you have to bring Airi-san here? You know Jurina-san had a bad history with that guy… You’re just rubbing salt on her wound! Do you even realized that? If only you weren’t stubborn and selfish enough, none of this would have happened! It was all YOUR FAULT!”
Rena just stand there with wide, angry eyes as Tani shouted all her pent up feelings out. Her chest goes up and down with heavy breathing, only to stop as she realized she had actually went over the limit once again. Tani closes her mouth with a hand. She wanted to take back everything she has said, but the fallen face of her senpai had said it all. Now, she had definitely screwed everything.
“Rena-senpai…I’m-”
“Enough…”
“No, Sen-”
“Enough! I don’t want to hear anything from you.”
“But…”
“I’m tired. I’m going to sleep.”
Rena turns around and slams the door on Tani’s face. She stood there in silence, her eyes not moving from the last spot she saw Rena’s guilt-stricken face. Without warning, stream of tears flow down her face. Tani tried to move her legs, but the disappointed face of her senpai makes her lose all the will to move her muscles. Suddenly, a box of tissue appeared on her view. She turns to the person holding it.
“J-Jurina-san...?”
“You’re gonna wet my carpet with those tears and snots. I don’t want my things to be stained with your stupid DNA later.”
“T-thank you…” Tani reach out for the box, pulling one to wipe her wet face.
“She’s not coming out?”
Tani shakes her head no. Jurina lets out a sigh as she mumbles to herself.
“What a waste. Just when I’ve made dinner for three, one decided to go on a diet. Seriously, I should sue you guys for wasting my money… Not to mention the amount of freedom I’ve lost since then.”
Her mumbling, which was quite clear to be heard, had caught Tani’s attention as she looked at the whining Jurina. This is the first time the cold-hearted mentor had actually complained in front of Tani. And boy, how fascinating it was for Tani to see this side of Jurina. Sensing eyes on her, Jurina glanced at the silent girl who’s currently gawking at her before letting out another deep sigh.
“Since Rena is not eating, I’m expecting you to finish her portion and clean the kitchen. Oh right, I’m feeling lazy so please clean the mug I left on the countertop.”
“Eh…?”
Tani stared at Jurina confusedly, her mind is still in a boggle. She can’t believe Jurina is making her do chores right now. How insensitive can she be? She was about to protest but stopped as Jurina approached her.
“Seriously…” Jurina lightly flicked Tani’s head. “You’re such an idiot for picking a fight with your senpai.”
“What are yo-...”
Jurina deliberately lets out a long yawn as she stretches her arms upwards.
“How can Rena stand being with you? You’re boring, you know... Better stay in my warm bed instead of wasting my precious time with you.” Jurina turns around and make her way to her room. “Go take a sleep, punk. You don’t want to be late for practice tomorrow and face Mayu’s hellish wrath.”
“Sure…”
Tani was about to head to the kitchen, but Jurina stopped her as she makes a coughing sound while standing by the door of her room.
“By the way… you look pathetic. The usual retarded, weird and funny face suits you better.”
Tani smiled at Jurina’s remarks about her face. She was about to reply with a comeback, but Jurina had already close the door. Shrugging her shoulder, Tani makes her way to the kitchen to clean the place as the owner told her so. Indeed, there was a mug left on the countertop. A smirk appeared on her face as she reaches out for the mug. However, what she found was a mug filled with freshly made hot chocolate with a generous topping of marshmallows and caramel drizzle on top. Tani was stupefied as she reads a small note under it.
Some leftovers for my personal maid.
Drink this, punk. Or else… A warm smile appeared on her face together with streams of tears. Instead of feeling better, the hot chocolate just made her feel bitter and worse for the treatment she gave to the maker in the past. Even when she treated Jurina badly, the person still treats her nicely. She remembered what Yuki said to her, what Jurina had done for her when she got into the band. Of all the things she had done to the cold person, Jurina didn’t seem to take it personally or have any ill intentions of her. She takes a sip of the drink, the warm liquid seems to comfort her whole being from all the sadness and guilt overwhelming her soul…
For once, she wondered how can someone so cold can actually spread some warmth into her being. She wipes her tears, sniffing her runny nose as she takes another long sip of the drink.
“Just what have I done…”
The day after...All of them are at the studio as Mayu had ordered them to be here to meet someone for their album cover photoshoot. They are currently doing their own things; Mayu’s on the phone, Yuki making a weird bubbly sound as she stood behind Mayu to annoy her, Sayaka currently writing something on a piece of paper, Rena solemnly staring out the window with Tani watching her from afar while letting out countless of sighs and Jurina nowhere to be found.
“Wait… Where’s Jurina?” Mayu asked as she counts the girl one by one.
“Out on the rooftop.” Yuki nonchalantly replied as she continues to make the bubble sound.
“Oh, okay. Can you please get her down here? I need to make an announcement.”
“Whatever you say, my princess~” Yuki gentlemanly said before giving a flying kiss to Mayu who only gave her a straight-face look. Shrugging, Yuki makes her way to the sighing Tani instead of the door. She makes a pop sound near Tani’s ear, catching her attention immediately.
“W-what?”
“You’ve been sighing for 48 times since I saw you.”
“Eh? I did…?”
“Nope. Just kidding~” Yuki grins like a kid as Tani rolled her eyes from her leader childish remarks. “Hey, I need you to do something for me.”
“What?”
“Go up the rooftop and tell Jurina to get her ass down here, pronto!”
“E-eeh?? No way! I don’t-...”
“It’s not a choice. It’s an order. Now, go or I’ll spank your butt as hard as I can!”
“But, Yuki-san! I’m still… Jurina-san is… I don’t… It’s just... ARRGHH!”
Feeling sorry for the troubled kid, Yuki put a hand around her shoulder and drags Tani to walk with her.
“What will you do if you have too many panties at home that you just don’t have the space to keep them?”
“Uhh… panties? What does th-...”
“Just answer me.” Yuki glares at Tani, making the latter gulp in fright.
“Ummm… t-throw some of them away?”
“No! Who would throw their panties away? Gosh, where’s your common sense? Those are panties, damn it! You know… panties? To throw them away? Oh god...” Tani raised a brow at Yuki, which managed to make her stop as she clears her throat.
“You don’t want to throw them, of course. You keep them! But you need to organize your drawers first.” Tani blinks her eyes a few times in confusion, but nods her head anyway. “First, you gotta count how many panties you have at home. Then, you need to make a blueprint of how your drawers gonna look like once you’ve stuffed all your panties inside. It’s like a master plan, you know? Now you can easily stuffed your drawers with all the panties in the world, if you’re clever at arranging them. You need to find the right place using the right method. You got that?”
“Uhh… I think… so?”
“Good, good. So now go up there and talk to that stubborn Jurina!” Yuki immediately pushed Tani out the rooftop door, which Yuki had managed to dragged Tani along without her realizing it, before shutting it for good.
“Ehh? H-hey! Open up!”
“I’ll open it once you get Jurina down here!”
“Darn it…” Tani cursed before letting out a deep breath and makes her way to find Jurina on the windy rooftop. She’s still thinking about the panties’ blueprint Yuki had told her, thinking what does this had to do with her problems. Being deep in her own thoughts, she didn’t realize she has been standing in front of Jurina for the past few minutes. Her eyes become wide as Jurina greets her.
“What are you doing here?”
“Uhhh… counting panties?”
“Huh?”
Tani mentally facepalm for accidentally blurting out what’s in her thoughts. She cursed Yuki for making her thinking about how many panties she have before releasing a deep breath.
“J-Jurina-san…?”
“What?” Jurina give her a glare, making Tani startled.
“It’s c-cold out here… n-nee?”
“So…? I like cold. It suits me, isn’t it.”
“N-no! You’ll catch a cold later!”
Jurina slowly turns her attention from the crowded street below towards the flabbergasted Tani. Her eyes turn into slits as she scrutinize Tani’s face closely.
“Did you bump your head somewhere...?” Jurina asked, weirded out with Tani’s sudden persistent act.
“No! It’s not like that!” Tani scratched her head as she tried to think of an excuse, “The thing is…”
“You should sto-” Jurina was about to ignore Tani when suddenly, the punk bowed a perfect 90 degree in front of her.
“I’m really sorry for everything I’ve done to you in the past, Jurina-san!”
Jurina takes a few steps back, the loud shrieking voice of Tani is making her ears buzzing, before turning her head left and right.
“Okaaay… I think you should seriously go see a doctor. There’s definitely something wrong with you.”
“Just listen!” Tani frowns at the confused Jurina as she takes a deep breath, “I’m sorry I said those things to you, Jurina-san… It was my fault in the beginning. I’ve been hearing things from Rena-senpai’s side without finding the truth, blindly accusing and blaming you... You’re right all along. I am an idiot. I didn’t know-”
“Hold it, punk!” Jurina raise a hand to stop her before crossing her arms with squinted eyes. “Spill it. Who’s the culprit?”
“W-what do you mean?”
“WHO TOLD YOU ABOUT ME?!”
Tani cowered from fear as Jurina towers over her, giving her the ice cold glare she really hates and scared of.
“Umm… I d-don’t know what you’re saying...”
“Tch. Never mind.” Jurina cursed to herself, mumbling incoherent words with Yuki’s name in between before she roughly pulls Tani closer by her shirt.
“Look here, punk. I don’t need your pity or sympathy, alright? You don’t have to suck me up like a puny punk… I’m a human and so do you.”
“W-what do you mean…?”
“Just be your damn pathetic self, punk!” Jurina released Tani as she turns around. “You don’t have to change anything or apologize… It’s not like I really hate you.”
Jurina mumbled the last part but Tani caught it perfectly clear as she respond almost immediately with her loud, high-pitched voice.
“R-really?” Tani’s face immediately lit up before she realized something. “Wait… What did you just said?!”
“Seriously... Stop acting like an annoying, spoiled brat trying to make friends with me, loser!”
“Why you…” Not wanting to surrender, Tani quickly came up with a comeback. “You’re pathetic too for running away and crying in the rain, you crybaby!”
“What? You dare say that again?!”
“You crybaby! You’re just pretending to be tough when you’re actually a softie at heart!”
“YOU!”
“WHAT?!”
Out of nowhere, a clapping sound echoed on the rooftop. They both turn their heads to find Yuki walking towards them with an excited grin.
“That’s more like it!” Yuki approached them as she put her hands on their shoulders and pulled them together. “Nothing beats a good, happy relationship of a mentor and her trainee~ Now do make-up hugs and kisses, both of you!”
“NEVER!”
“NO WAY!”
They both pulled away from Yuki, before exchanging glances with each other. A devilish smirk appeared as they turn to the innocent leader.
“What?” Yuki asked as she slowly took a few steps back while Jurina gets closer to her.
“Oh, nothing… Just wanted to settle a score with you.”
“Make that two.” Tani interfered as she cracks her knuckles.
“Eh? Wait, hold on… W-what are you guys talking about? Oh, come on! Don’t do this to me…”
“You better run while you still can, Yuki.”
“Hey, hey! I’ll tell Mayu about this!”
“Like hell I care!”
Jurina starts to chase after Yuki as she runs away from them. Tani could only laugh at the side from the friendly scene. She can feel a weight being lifted off her shoulders after talking with Jurina. It wasn’t talking actually, but more towards having an understanding between them. It’s nothing much, but at least it’s a start. A start of something new between comrades.
It’s true what Yuki said about panties.
You don’t need to throw them away… You just need to place them in the right place with the right way, if you’re clever enough.
Mayu’s POVWhere the heck is that Yuki? Is it that hard to drag Jurina down from the rooftop? Urgh… now that I counted the girls again out of boredom, I just had to realized someone else is also missing.
“Oh, darn it. We have a third person missing in just a few minutes. Do I have to file a report of missing people to the police?!”
I screamed by myself, but I think I caught the others’ attention too since they were all currently ducking their heads down while sometimes sneaking a glance at me. I rolled my eyes when my phone suddenly rings.
Who’s that Pokemon? It’s Mayuyu~!I take it out and look at the name of the caller.
Wrong move.
My breath hitched, my hand trembling as the name I surely don’t want to see right now flashes on the screen. I should ignore this call and turn my phone off, but I know the harsh consequences I’ll face once I do that. Biting my lips, I slide the answering icon before raising the phone on my ear.
“H-hello?”
“Hello, my dear.”My chest starts to pound, thumping loudly as I heard the voice. I grip my fist, walking into my room as I close the door behind me.
“What do you want?”
“That’s not the proper way to talk to me, dear.”“I’m busy right now so if you don’t have any business with me, I’m hanging up.” I hissed at the caller with an annoyed tone. However, the person just chuckle at me.
“Do that, and you’ll know what’s going to happen to you.”I was about to slam my fist on the table when the door suddenly swing open, revealing a smiling Yuki.
“Mayuyu~ Everything is under controlled!” She saluted playfully, “I’ve gathered all the girls, and now I just need to pick my girl!”
Yuki wiggles her eyebrows, her hands making a groping movement as she approached me. I quickly pointed at the phone, signalling her to quiet down and sit on the chair like a good girl.
“Oh my… is that her? Your rumored… secret lover?”“No.” I firmly said, my eyes glancing up to the flirting Yukirin who’s currently blowing kisses on my directions.
“Oh, well. Not that I care.” The person once again let out a chuckle before the voice turns into a serious one.
“There’s a family gathering soon. I’ll text you the details.”“And why would you think I’m going to be there?”
“Oh, you know why Mayu. Don’t disappoint me, or else...”My eyes automatically falls on Yuki. I gritted my teeth as I turn around to hide my tensed face from Yuki.
“Fine. I’ll come. But don’t you ever dare disturb me again. Goodbye.”
I quickly pull the phone away, slumping on my chair as I tried to keep the tears from flowing. I close my eyes tightly, my teeth still gritting from fear and regret when a pair of arms wrapped around my neck. My tensed body slowly relax as Yuki kiss my head. She lowers her head, leaving a peck on my left cheek before meeting our cheeks together. We stay like that for a while, enjoying the other’s warmth as my thoughts of the caller slowly disappeared. She didn’t ask me anything nor did she said a thing. That’s what I like about Yuki. She surely knows the time when I need to have a talk or when I need a silent company. She never tries to pushed her way with me… except when sleeping, that is. Which I don’t mind at all…
“Yukirin?”
“Yes, my love?”
I smile from the nickname, her lovely voice never failed to make my chest fluttering.
“You…” I gulp as I close my eyes tightly. “You’ll never leave me… right?”
“Of course.”
“No matter what?”
I slightly turn to the side as I feel Yuki moving around to face me. She holds my hands, her eyes staring into mine. She slowly leans in, kissing me softly before nuzzling our face closer.
“I’ll never leave you, Mayuyu. I promise.”
