JESUS I went through a list of 423 kpop songs with female artists for this. That was harsh. But I have a list now!

Sorry for making it a mess, but I want to include commentary.

1. OOHYO - Youth Day

Something about this track is so magical and touching to me. When I listened to it for the second time, I was almost moved to tears. No other song came even close to that kind of an emotional response, so I think I had no choice but to place it as #1.

2. Oh my girl - Windy Day

I kind of wanted to include one uplifting, innocent song on the list, but this task was a bore until I found this song. It has everything you want from an uplifting, 'pure image' song without being boring; it even has some surprising little touches in the instrumental, I thought. It slayed every other song of its kind to the extent I wanted to give it a high rank.

3. BLACKPINK - BOOMBAYAH

As a sort of hard club dance song (?) this song is not a genre I normally like, but I think it's a beast of its genre to the extent that even I can appreciate it. This song has no apologies for anyone. When I was going through the tracks again I found I could not stop listening to this song and skip to the next one; that's why it's #3.

4. Ladies' Code - Galaxy

Beautiful, otherworldly.

5. Lazmod - Parallel Lines

Synth heaven. Soothing vocals. I guess this is my quirky indie pick-up. I really really like it lol.

6. Kisum - 2 Beer

My favourite hip hop/rap song that I came across. Chillax. Another song I didn't want to stop listening to.

7. SISTAR - Giorgio Moroder One More Day

Solid 'dramatic', srs bsnss song. I was concerned I only first liked the song because it had a lesbian storyline in the MV but I listened to it again without looking at the video and that turned out not to be a case.

8. Wonder Girls - Why So Lonely

WG kind of manages to do something a little different but still be trendy and fresh at the same time. As usual.

9. MAMAMOO - Décalcomanie

The badass women song of my list. Reminds me of the "good old days" of Kpop with KARA's Lupin etc.

10. The Barberettes - Love Shoes (feat. Stuart Zender)

Bass. The song and MV are both really fun, I like their voices and this is relaxing to listen to, as well.

Honorable mention:
Lee Jin Ah - I'm Full

Lee Jin Ah has a very quirky, cutesy voice and I generally like what she does lol.

AKMU - How people move

AKMU is definitely different and deserves some props for that. This song was almost too all over the place for me, though.

MAMAMOO - 1CM (Taller than you)

My favourite funny song of the year that I can appreciate even as a short person.

Oh hello! Just started listening to Kpop again a few months ago so my list is pretty comprised of what I've been liking.

Edit: Oh what the hell, I'll add some commentary too LOL

1. Blackpink - Whistle

OH MY GOD I love this song so much I really don't know why but I find myself singing it all the time and grooving to it and I just think it's catchy af. Love Jennie's rap parts bc she has just as much swag as Lisa imo.

2. Blackpink - Playing With Fire

Very close second bc goddamn, Blackpink dominated 2016. I sing along to this song a lot too and I really like the lyrics. It's a good balance of upbeat and catchy but also somewhat emotional.

3. EXID - L.I.E

UGH my new bias group Kinda along the same lines of Playing With Fire in that it's upbeat but not necessarily a happy song? Love love the breakdown!

4. Sistar - I Like That

My second bias group! As much as I love their happy, fun summer anthems, this was a welcome change. Sultry and sexy with a lot of great harmonies, I'm especially into the slowdown during the chorus. Only wish Bora got more lines...and perhaps Soyou too. Happy that Dasom is getting her shine but it's at the expense of the other two.

5. Wonder Girls - Why So Lonely

I forgot how vocally beautiful (and visually too hehe) WG is~ Yubin singing is always refreshing bc she really is more than just a rapper. Really chill song, reminds me of a summer day.

6. Blackpink - Boombayah

Freakin epic song, ridiculously catchy and fun and just gangsta enough. Blackpink in your goddamn area, nuff said.

7. EXID - Don't Wanna Drive/Will You Take Me

My favorite song from the Street album, aside from L.I.E. Feels like a first love song to me, going out on a first date and wanting to prolong the time together a bit (LOL not my own experience).

8. TWICE - TT

Wasn't gonna rank this at first but the more I listened to it, the more I started to like it. Fun song with a lot of cute voices.

9. Hyuna - Morning Glory

An adorable song, nice change from Hyuna's usual borderline raunchiness lolol.

10. Jay Park feat. Gray - Drive

I hate to admit that I enjoy some of Jay Park's music (not the ridiculously overdone "gangsta" rap) but I was hella feeling this song. Ideal balance of singing and rapping. Abundance of English makes it easy to sing along to haha

Honorable mentions:

Hyolyn - Love Like This

Hyolyn put out some pretty solid solo tracks this year and this was immediately my favorite. Enough hip hop to make it more interesting than a ballad but not so much that it compromises her vocals. Her voice is soothing and reliable, you know you're in for a lovely auditory experience. I'm a fan of Dok2's voice too.

Hyuna - U&Me♡

Another uncharacteristically cute song lol I still find her voice pretty sexy here at times though, that breathiness heh

Red Velvet - Russian Roulette

Was NOT a fan at first, probably because I found the title misleading? I expected something more intense (like Spica's Russian Roulette) instead of a cutesy song but I will give it props for being catchy.

4minute - Canvas

I saw a comment on tumblr that said this song would be great for stripping and my god I can't get that idea out of my head LOL it's a pretty sexy song, especially the crescendo of the chorus...I can very much appreciate that buildup.

EXID - Hello (Hani Solo)

UGH Hani doesn't get enough credit for her beautiful, jazzy voice.

Jay Park - Aquaman

Don't care much for the song itself but the lyrics made even me blush a little LOL

First I wanna say it's beautiful to see people posting their favorite Kpop songs. 

Second, 2016 was a solid year for Kpop. Although I didn't struggle too much to figure out this list, there were songs I absolutely adored this year.

I will also do commentary for my list cause I like explaining/defending my choices.

1. Luna - Free Somebody
2. Luna - Galaxy
3. Luna - Keep On Doin'

Case in point: I absolutely adored/loved/worshiped/Any-Other-Synonym-Of-Enjoyed Luna's solo EP. I always felt as though if she got a shot to do some solo stuff she could be good. I didn't realize it would be one of my favorite music project released this year, period. Yes, I also think I'm crazy to put 3 Luna songs at the top, but I'm following my heart. I'm gonna be so excited to watch Luna perform her solo songs the next time f(x) does a concert. Putting fake money on it now, it will probably be my favorite song performed on their next blu-ray concert release.

4. Red Velvet - Russian Roulette

Outside of Luna, Red Velvet was immediately the second act I thought of for this list. This has Orange Caramel vibes, so I dig it. Although SM as a whole was hit and miss for me, when they hit, they were home runs. Or at least a double. Baseball.

5. Kisum - No Jam

If you were gonna tell me that someone from Unpretty Rapstar would make my list, I would have doubted you. But here we are. Yo Kisum's music is really good.

6. Sunny Hill - On The Way Home

After Darling of All Hearts, Sunny Hill's music was really doing much for me. But damn this song, more specifically this MV tugged at my heart strings. THESE FOUR WOMEN WHO ARE LIVING THEIR LIVES RELUCTANTLY CHOOSE TO GO HOME AND VISIT FAMILY FOR REASONS BUT THEY REALIZE THAT HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS AND SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO RECENTER YOURSELF ESPECIALLY WHEN LIFE IS KINDA SHITTY. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. 

7. Wonder Girls - Why So Lonely

Color me disappointed when WG didn't realize a full project. They were never bad, but from Like This to now, they have put out some great music, even with member changes. Good on you. Please more music next time.

8. Ladies Code - Galaxy

Aye, two songs named Galaxy. I am one of those people who didn't listen to Ladies Code till after EunB and Rise passed. I feel bad about this fact because when I did listen, I really dug it. Hindsight, right? Well I'm paying attention now and damn Galaxy is smooth as hell. More power to you, ladies.

9. AKMU - Re-Bye

So glad I had a friend link me this song, because I would have never found out about them otherwise. It's not a banger or anything, but it's a nice tune.

10. Clazziquai Project - Speak of Love

Did anyone else know the group's name is Clazziquai Project? I didn't. Anyway, it's a mellow beat with a cute video to match.

Honorable Mentions

f(x) - All Mine

I listened to a lot of 4 Walls this year. Between that, Luna, the blu-ray concert, and All Mine, f(x) went from a group I really liked to a group that probably made my all-time favorites. Yeah, f(x) is fucking awesome.

Blackpink - Playing With Fire

Unfortunately, Blackpink didn't really do much for me. I get they are the second coming of 2ne1 in a lot of ways, but still not a fan. That being said, Playing With Fire was a song that surprised me. Perhaps Blackpink one day will make my list.

- I realize Dream Girls isn't that good of a song, but I'm a sucker for pastel, haha.
- I considered AOA's Good Luck, but that was just too repetitive and nineties to make the list.
