Woke up early  this morning and caught the 9:45 am showing. Actually had to park my car far and run to theatre because I was late.  Overall I was impressed by the dark and gritty storyline.  One of the most realistic comic book movies out there.  Ledger's acting as the psychotic Joker was stellar.   Batman kicks serious arse and the action scenes and pacing of the story was cooked to perfection.  It was violent enough to satisfy my violent tastes. Definitely not for kids as there are some disturbing scenes and strong menace throughout. 4 thumbs up!

just got back from seeing the movie..UNBELIEVABLE!!

lets see..where should I start..?

Ledger's portrayal of the Joker-the best Joker I've seen..he HAS to get serious nods for an Oscar. There's so many scenes to talk about that I couldn't believe my eyes..I have to say I laughed a little for some of the scenes.

Gotta give serious props to Aaron Eckhart..he played Harvey/Two-Face pretty well. Had the face, costume and the coin suited well.

Christian Bale's performance of Batman was as dark, just like the comic. The way it should be.

I won't spoil it for the rest of you guys..but let's just say: Batman 3 anybody?

The movie was epic.

Ledger was sooo good. I'm so disappointed he died.

Anyways, was it only me, or did I see a possible Robin for Batman 3?

if you mean Gordon's son, no. Nolan has said these are the early years of Batman, 'Robin is out there in a crib somewhere'

Ledger was epic, stole the show, deserves Oscar nod. Movie overall was amazing and extremely badass, action scenes were great and brilliantly shot. A touch too long, and those sonar scenes were fucken disorienting. Vague ending will have to be explained in the third installment (which wont make it to theatres for a good number of years, most are saying). Some cool plot things that were unexpected.  By far the best Batman film, and one of the best of the summer, but I don't think it takes my #1 slot for the year so far (right up there, though).

I guess we can go for a Robin for 3 is there will be one, which looks like it. After everything happened with the movie, inside and outside the movie, I guess a Robin is in order. But with the Nolan movies, most if not all the important characters have some sort of psychological problem with them when they enter or exit the movie. So I guess going on that line, Dick Grayson would fit since in the comics, his parents die and Bruce fathers him, which eventually leads him to be Robin.

But as for TDK, it was epic.

Wish Friday would hurry up and arrive!!

Quote from: 'BBC'
Batman film The Dark Knight has set a single-day box office record by taking $66.4m (£33.2m) on its opening night, distributor Warner Bros has said.

The movie, which debuted in the US on Friday, has surpassed the previous record of $59.8m (£29.9m) set last year by Spider-Man 3, the studio said.

Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman, it cost $185m (£92.5m) to make.

Critics have praised the film, which also stars the late actor Heath Ledger.

'Proud'

"We have been thrilled by the response to The Dark Knight, first from the critics and now from audiences," said Dan Fellman, Warner's head of distribution.

Ledger, who died following a drug overdose in January aged 28, played the Joker.

Some supporters have suggested that he should get a posthumous Oscar nomination.

Last week Ledger's co-stars paid tribute to him at the world premiere of the film in New York.

"We're very proud of the film," said Fellman.

"It's the magic of the movie business, how one film just stands out above the others."

The Dark Knight will be premiered in the UK on 21 July.

The last Batman movie, Batman Begins, in 2005, grossed nearly $49 million (£24.5m) in its first weekend in North America.

It went on to collect about $372 million (£186m) worldwide.

Dang dude, don't cheat yourself with a bootleg, especially this particular film =)  You never get the full effect of a scene/movie with a crappy cam version.

-----

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!  AND COMMENTS!

I hope they don't put Robin in yet.  To me, that would lose its Dark edge.

Movie was good, but i think the action scenes coulda been better choreographed.

What's up with Scarecrow?  I was sooo excited to see him have more of a role, but it was only for like 2 mins.  =(

A lot of scenes were edited, for sure. I think it was to comply with the pg13 rating.  Like when Joker dropped the chick off the roof.  Batman saved her, then it cuts to a completely new scene... WTF?  what happened to Joker in the Tower?  Wouldn't he be looking for Dent more?  Or he just left quietly?  Also, when Joker killed Spawn (Michael Jai White), the black guy i think his name was Gamble.  They didn't show the knife cut or whatever.  It was just a sound...

Last, it was a little too long for me.  Yeah, its cool and all, batman kicking ass, and Joker was just too good, but yeah, that last scene with 2Face, i wasn't expecting.  I thought it was done.  So, is he dead?  He didnt really last long.  I kinda wanted his coin to be scratched up like the comic, not dirty.

I think thats all my gripes with the film.

Joker was just, you have to see it.  A lot of quotables.  His monologues were great.  That pencil trick that right there pretty much setup what the Joker was gonna be for the whole movie.  Great way to open his character.  That nurse scene!  Too funny!  The way he said Hi with that face and the wig, killer!  Even that part where Gordon got promoted, then you see him clapping!  Although Jack Nicholson's Joker was different, hands down Heath's was better.
word.

Anyone else think the joker actually gave batman the right addresses for dent/rachel, but them knowing joker they went to the opposite ones to ruin his "plan"?

This movie was fantastic. Heath did a wonderful job as Joker, nothing was ~too predictable~ and thats what i liked the most

I'm not being cheap I just do not like cinema's, unless its one of those big THX certified one's, but haven't been there in years either.
I'm waiting for the DVD, but until then I do like to know what I am buying.

Just watched the movie yesterday and it was an awesome movie! I was surprised at how well took on the role of Aaron Eckhart. I had my doubts, but he pulled it off. Heath Ledger's Joker was phenomenal and lived up to the hype. I didn't get to see it in IMAX, but it was still an awesome experience.

Fucking movie blew me away. I AM the Joker. So many good quotes...

SPOILERS

Like the part where he goes "I gotta do everything myself!!" to his incompetent henchman, and even when he got all the gangs to help." That nod to Jack was EPIC "YOU COMPLETE ME!!" ROCK ON. Slamming that guys face with a pencil. Oscar fo sho.

Batman/Bruce Wayne sure took a backseat in all this. But Two-face was pretty well developed. How fast he fell and the sacrifice Batman took to honor him was a cool twist to the usual 1 sided comic book movie. Great balance.

The story with Lucius and the trust Batman sacrificed just to save his friends totally gripping, u feel for Batman in that sense.

There's spoilers in this post. If there's really is someone who reads this thread and try to avoid them.

For starters, this is certainly the most hyped film of the year. Too bad that it's overhype. The Dark Knight is a good film. Not great, not awesome, but ok. Certainly one of the best Batman films made.

First, Heath Ledger's Joker is great. Making pencil disappear = pure greatness. As crazy he is, he's great. But then he somehow loses his craziness and becomes more and more ordinary. I didn't like that. And that's why I still think Nicholson's Joker was better.

Ledger's Joker is still good enough to steal the show from the Batman. Dark Knight doesn't do much in the film. And he doesn't have any cool scenes. I had heard that the fighting scenes would be better than in Batman Begins.  Ehmm, what fighting scenes? Bale just growls through the movie having some conversations with Gordon and Dent. The Gotham-wide cellphone-sonar thing was stupid.

I liked the plot though, especially seeing Joker's success on bombing Rachel and Dent and a hospital. The ferry thing wasn't credible enough.

Aaron Eckhart was a good choice for Arthur Dent, but his character was too new for falling to the dark side. It was just too soon, didn't feel anywhere... It would've been better if they had left the whole becoming Two-Face plot for the next movie.  I wanted to see a proper Joker vs. Batman showdown anyway.

The Dark Knight is fucking amazing and it totally exceeded my expectations. It's seriously the most awesome movie I have seen since Kill Bill. I have already seen it twice and I will prolly go see it one more time before the DVD comes out. I would say that the only bad thing about TDK is that it's too fucking good. I don't even feel like watching any new flicks cause I already know that they won't be nearly as amazing as TDK  XD

Box Office - 'Dark Knight' Wins Again, Now Third Highest-Grossing Film in U.S. History

What an unusual five days it's been at the box office. Pineapple Express broke through big time on Wednesday, setting an August record for a Wednesday release, and then trailed off quickly. And just when it looked like The Dark Knight had reigned for its last days heading into the weekend, the Batman sequel came back in a big way to claim its fourth box office victory in a row, and almost certainly its last.

With $26 million in weekend ticket sales, according to the new Box Office Mojo estimates, The Dark Knight has now amassed $441 million in 24 days. That's the third-highest total in U.S. history. (Nobody make the case for inflation, please, because I'm tired of arguing it.)

The film will very likely beat Star Wars and its $460 million by this time next week, meaning it will have taken a month to become the second film to ever rake in over $465 million.

As for Pineapple Express, the Wednesday opening did hurt its weekend totals, a theory we put out there on Thursday. So many people wanted to see it immediately, that by the time the weekend arrived, there was little fire left. In fact, the only day where it showed an increase was going to Friday from Thursday; the Judd Apatow-produced stoner comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco lost audience on Saturday and on Sunday, while The Dark Knight gained about 40% of viewers on Saturday, the day that really put the sequel over the edge.

The same kind of early release blahs hit The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which never really got on track anyway, taking in just over $19 million over five days, and during the weekend, struggled to make $10 million. A fourth-place finish is all the film could muster, even with a near freefall by The Mummy, which held on for a third-place finish.

Step Brothers continued to do good business despite the new comedy in theaters; it rounded out the weekend's top five and has earned $80 million. $100 million seems unlikely, but there's a fair chance it could enter that club in another three or four weeks. Mamma Mia! is the newest member in that club, incidentally, and internationally, the film has nearly grossed $250 million.

But because there's really only one storyline this summer, let's ask what the new numbers mean for The Dark Knight. Regular Big Picture readers know we've looked into our crystal ball, hoping to predict where this movie will eventually end up. Titanic's $600 million is still safe, we believe, but there's a very real chance that The Dark Knight will make $535 million, maybe even more if the studio is smart and boosts its release again at Halloween.

We calculated its week-by-week performance based on a standard 40% drop during the week and then followed the weekend percentages for Pirates 2, itself a former opening weekend record breaker. It looks like that was a pretty smart formula to follow: After 24 days, we had pegged The Dark Knight at just under $446 million, and it's roughly a day off that pace. So if it continues to grow at the rate we projected - and we see no reason to change that hypothesis now - our estimates would place the film at $512 million after the Labor Day weekend. Because it's performing very close to those numbers, I think we can safely assume $500 million by Labor Day, if not a couple million more.
