100 Greatest Movie Insults

My favourites are 8:19 and 9:17. Love that movie. Special mention as well to Anchorman.

So they've made an American version of the brilliant Let the Right One In... I don't really know how I feel about that, but seeing the trailer it actually looks quite good. At least the trailer makes it seem like they chose to make the American version closer to the novel, which is... interesting. The novel is disturbing as all hell, something the original Swedish film doesn't capture all too well (but it's still absolutely brilliant and heart breaking in its own way).

... I think I might want to check this one out.

And for comparison, here's the trailer to the original Swedish version

There's just something hauntingly bittersweet about the Swedish film version. It's a story about growing up mixed with this bizarre horror setting. It's wonderful and absolutely worth a watch. I wonder if the American version will be able to capture the nostalgic feeling one gets from watching Let the Right One In at all.

^Wow, that trailer makes it look decent, and a bit more intense than the Swedish version. Release date is set at October 1st currently, awesome! :yep:

I think it's time to watch the Swedish version again, one of the few movies I've ever watched more than once.

Oh I love Let The Right One In, both as a novel and a film. Such a beautiful story. The novel got pretty messed up towards the end which the movie steered away from completely. Of the two I'd say the novel is probably better. But the movie really brought it to life, the actors for Oskar and Eli were cast perfectly. The US remake will always be the inferior version in my mind, and it's pretty unnecessary after seeing that trailer as there's a lot of scenes in there that look shot scene for scene. About as pointless as that remake of Psycho.

Yeah, I saw the film before reading the novel and the novel seriously shocked me, hahaha :nervous so messed up, but at the same time I understand why they cut it out of the film.. interesting how it created a completely different atmosphere for the film, though! The film just had me going "awwwww ;____;" by the end, while the novel had me going "..... fffffffff is it over yet? D: aaaaaaah".

Though speaking about scene for scene remakes.... there are times when that works really well. Redundant, perhaps, but they can still be really good and perhaps even better than the originals. Like Funny Games US, which is a scene for scene remake of the Austrian film Funny Games (even directed by the same director!)... it works really well, and is quite good! And I swear I'm not saying that just because Tim Roth is in the remake :nervous

... though upon reading about the original I want to re-watch that some time, because omg Tim Roth's role as the father was originally done by Ulrich Mühe? D: How could I forget that? I adore him in The Lives of Others.. ;_;!!!!

Saw Departures AKA Okuribito on Saturday! Oh wow, that was a great movie~ Super sad but oh so good. :thumbsup

"Departures", a Japanese drama about an unemployed cellist who was forced to take a job in the funeral business, was crowned the best Asian film. The drama also won the best foreign language film in last year's Oscars.

I rented Departures without realizing what an acclaimed movie it is.  It is a movie with an unusual theme and yet very touching, dealing with various topics of family and human relationships, despite being set essentially in the Japanese funeral industry.  Along the way you get a lot of incidental insight into Japanese urban life in the cold northern city of Yamagata;  the changing scenery of the seasons is alone worth seeing the movie for.  So anyway - if you didn't see this yet and you appreciate sensitive movies in a Japanese context, get hold of it sometime.

just watched Shiri last night. It was good but I was getting frustrated cause one of the ladies was so damned familiar and I couldn't place her.

This morning I roll into work and it hit me she's Sun from Lost.

saw The Karate Kid. It was good, but what's up with the reverse flash kick he pulled out of his ass?  At least in the OG version, Daniel was practicing the crane kick.

Jaden acts like his dad. Jackie was pretty convincing =)

Toy Story 3 - 10/10

How can a kids movie bring me so close to tears? :nervous Very funny and touching, I loved it. In fact I'd even go so far as to say if you don't like it, you have no soul. So...there.

And is it just me or did anyone else see Totoro towards the end?

I just saw Inception, and it's fricking amazing @_@; The best film I've seen at the cinema in quite a while. And a "film-film" to boot! Not based on a novel or a comic book or anything. AMAZING, KEEP IT UP~ :heart: xD;

The film really plays like a mix of William Gibson and Haruki Murakami ideas, wonderfully bizarre, and so so thrilling. I want to go see it again @_@!
