Oh I loved Coraline. Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite authors and the movie, like his books was fantastical yet wonderfullly creepy. Like an old school fairy tale. Like Barrie said, I'd wonder if kids would freak out over watching it. XD

Sucker Punch is getting absolutely pounded in reviews. Some calling it the worst movie ever. A vast majority labelling it as a videogame, which doesn't sound too bad, until you realise that videogame is an agreed term for mysognisitc, mindless drivel. Will have to see it for myself but it's a shame, I was hoping it to be better.

^ I enjoyed Sucker Punch alot and plan on seeing it again soon. There are complaints on the story and I can see what they are talking about, but I followed along well enough and the visuals and music were superbly mixed together.

This 100 movie challenge has motivated to watch a lot of movies  I'm at 65 already.

The Town 6/10
Some of the scenes are just too unbelievable. Affleck as tough guy is also hard to swallow

Rango 7/10
This movie looked great, but there are some problems.
- This movie is not for children: some characters and scenes are too creepy and the story is somewhat complicated.
- For adults it's too predictable.
- Lack of humor. I sat through this movie without changing expressions.
- It made me thirsty. A lot.

Jackass 3 6.5/10
More of the same. I felt there was too much emphasis on people getting hurt, rather than coming up with some funny skits.
Not as entertaining as the first two movies imo.

True Grit 3.5/10
True Boring. Seriously. It's really talk-heavy, you get zero sympathy for any of characters and the plot has some massive holes in it. Avoid!

The Social Network 6.5/10
This was pretty interesting. However, it could've used a bit more variety. It was ok, but I will not watch it again.

Sucker Punch 8/10
AWESOME. Ever since Lemony Snicket came out I was waiting for a new movie starring Emily Browning. I never expected something like this though  XD

The 'frame' of the story is pretty dramatic and it's mixed with some over the top action segments (giant samurai, dragons, robots, etc). At first i thought this movie would've been better if it would be a bit more light-hearted. On the other hand, because it is such a serious story it makes the action scenes better for two reasons: 1. it's a welcome change from the drama. 2. it gives you a stronger connection with the characters. You want them to succeed.

This movie has everything: drama, action with videogame-like elements, hot girls, an escape story, epic soundtrack... if you are a guy you'll most likely find something in this movie you'll dig

lol, from an imdb review:

Quote
I think that both the producer, and director, woke up all wet and hard one day, and decided to put their wet dreams into a movie.

I recommend this sort of action-fantasy-drama-psychological-horror-thriller flick, to twisted teenage horny boys who enjoyed "sailor moon" with napkins instead of popcorn...

lmao.

just saw sucker punch.

Super let down. I didn't see any trailers, and i didn't know what it was about. I try to watch a movie as unbiased as i can.

I don't know how Zach Snyder can mess up a movie so bad while having sexy girls, samurais, guns, dragons and swords.
It started off interesting, but once it got to the 'theatre', it turned really stupid. It felt so random. It was such a stupid plan, and everybody was in! ok! Girl power! The first 'dancing' (what dancing? you mean turning to the right?) scene was cool at first, but it got boring and predictable fast.

Out of all the actors, Blue (oscar isaac), Sweet Pea (meh..), and the Doctor (carla gugino) were the highlights. The rest were horrible. Script sucked too. I tried to turn off my brain, but it couldn't be helped.

Technically/visually it was stunning. (except 1/3 of the movie was slow-motion...). It was a video game, with scenes from games like ninja gaiden, call of duty, and uncharted. But with a super stupid plot and bad acting, it was wasted.

soundtrack was nice, but it threw it off how they'd play the stripper song when she'd complete her goal. It didnt' match. Catches a map, rock song! Stabs a dragon, techno song! They are nice songs though, but it made it hokey.

this it the first time i've really given a bad review for a movie, and i often give movies a chance. But sucker punch was such a big disappointment. I really hope Zach Snyder doesn't over-use CGI for Superman... I don't want to see a CGI superman flying in a CGI city fighting CGI bad guys. He's got visuals, but i think he uses the green screen way too much.

Oh yeah, one last thing, Jamie Chung was hot. Just too bad the character development sucked.
word.

I saw Sucker Punch last Friday and I enjoyed it a whole lot. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, nor did I have very high expectations (I'd seen all the bad reviews), but though the plot was simple, it touched me in a way I wasn't prepared for. It was refreshing to see such a stylized film deal with pretty deep emotional and psychological themes. Not to mention being very tongue in cheek about sexism in geek culture. People who say this film is for 13 year old boys obviously missed what this film is about 8D.

The music was the first thing that grabbed me. I could have just closed my eyes and still walked away a happy customer, the cover songs on the soundtrack are breathtaking. The whole intro sequence had me at the edge of my seat, and the music was a huge part of that. The slow motion sequences, the intense emotions... it was fantastic~!

The visuals are stunning as well, and I'm not talking about the special effects (which are very nice too). I mean the tone and feel of the entire piece, it's all well thought out and extremely pretty to look at.

I think that if you've played rpgs or watched anime, you'll be able to get what this film really is, and chances are you'll walk away having enjoyed it a lot. Scenes from Silent Hill, Moulin Rouge, Kill Bill, Brazil, Shutter Island and Inception came to mind as I was watching.

I guess a lot of people didn't get the film, but whatever. I think I might go see it again.

There's a really interesting interview with Zack Snyder here. Snippet;

Quote
Q: I thought it was basically you commenting on those attendants at Comic-Con who shout, “You’re hot!” at beautiful cast members.

A: Yeah! 100%. They don’t know how to be around it. It’s funny because someone once asked me about why I dressed the girls like that, and I said, “Do you not get the metaphor there? The girls are in a brothel performing for men in the dark. In the fantasy sequences, the men in the dark are us. The men in the dark are basically me; dorky sci-fi kids.”

The interview is absolutely worth a read. Looking forward to Director's Cut, and I hope he'll go back and finish the original ending. I'd love to see that.

I seen a few people talk about all modern film movie posters being in blue/orange and wondered what they were talking about. But now that it's been pointed out to me, THEY WERE TOTALLY RIGHT AND NOW IT'S ALL I CAN SEE!! :o :o

saw hangover 2.

Pretty much all the antics of the first one, in Bangkok =) which isn't a bad thing. Its just that its all expected, so it didn't have much umph and shock factor as the first.

and Jamie Chung is hott

Saw Harry Potter. Better than expected, DH part1 was pretty much a snorefest, so it didn't take much to beat that.

It finished up the story and answered all the stuff pretty well.
And the flashback was done nicely. Snape should get his own book/movie. :)
