yes rika is a competitive person, i think somewhere she said she was caught up in the moment and didnt realize what happened.  But yeah shes always nice to everyone, and is always a team player.

Many people refer to the ‘Angry 2003 Sports Festival incident’ as one of Rika’s low points (even Mari thought that was a no-no). I have a feeling that Rika may also have lost fans because of it, or at least made some of them question her. And so because of this incident, there are those who have come to believe that Rika is ‘two-faced.’ 

This is completely ignorant, and here’s why.

If she is ‘two-faced’ simply because she showed she was an imperfect human being like the rest of us, I really have nothing to say but @___@.

Personally, I’m glad I got to witness Rika have that moment, even if she regrets what happened just because of the reactions it roused. To me, she feels all the more real because of it. I’m somebody who has a very short fuse and tend to rage at people if they push my buttons enough, so I can understand.

But then again, I’m talking from the perspective of an outsider, and not as a Japanese fan. Firstly, their social etiquette is quite different from what I’m used to. The nail that sticks out gets hammered down. Secondly, they seem to regard idols as pretty cute girls who constantly smile and laugh and if they must be angry, a cute pout should suffice.

Mari also said that people were used to her Charmy personality, and so this incident must have been a shock for them and that fans wouldn't know what to think anymore.

Don’t people want to experience their idols as a person, and not just a 2-dimensional character? The fact that people would be shocked to see Rika like that might be reasonable, especially if they’ve never seen her like that before. BUT, if they decided that she was any less of a person because of it, then they are extremely narrow-minded. 

We’re all people, including these idols, and so they experience the whole range of emotions too. Everybody gets angry. It was just unfortunate that Rika is not the type to put up with things and allowed her feelings to get the better of her in front of an audience that large. The way I see it, she DID genuinely believe that her team had been unfairly ruled against, considering she didn’t know until later that her flag had already been taken away from her. If she had known that, I don’t think she would have reacted in that way. Reina (God bless her) even said she felt touched that Rika could stand up for herself like that. It’s obvious that Rika rules with her heart, not her head. Again, her righteousness at play.

She is the exact kind of person who I could imagine to speak out or do something if she witnessed an injustice (e.g. somebody being bullied), while most people would just walk on by and try to not let it affect them *thinks Densha Otoko but not as miserable and snotty*

I hope none of you guys felt that it was a bad moment for Rika. OK, it was bad in the sense that people misunderstood her because of it. But I really feel that it allowed us to see more of her. ^_^

What I learnt from this incident: Rika is a passionate person who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes.

Actually, seeing what I have seen at the 2003 Sports Festival actually made me love her more, and helped make her my favorite MM/H!P girl. She reminded me of myself actually; I'm stubborn as hell, and when I see something I disagree with I DON'T stand down.

This, as well as other things, shows me that Rika gives everything her all, and is a passionate human being. Which has made me love her so much  more.

That we shall. I am so excited that there are so many Rika photo shoots as of late! She's one of the most consistently beautiful/gorgeous/drop dead sexy women out there. Seriously. Is there ever a bad photo/vid of Rika? No.

Also... am I the only person who loves her voice? So many people hate it, but I don't think she's ANYWHERE as bad as many people make her out to be. She's had some fantastic performances.

Of course, we clinically proved that Rika's voice is H!P CHOICE GRADE A FUCK YEAH. I can't find  the post.. but Masa quoted this article (I think it was off the official blog) but Tsunku crafted Morning Musume's hits around Rika's voice. That he chose her cuz of the uniqueness of her voice.

Rika can change it up, like in Souda We're Alive she can do a great groowwwwl..And she has improved in so many ways, it's more BELT IT OUT than just cute anime-style like in her early days with Tanpopo and Country Musume.

It is surprising, for sure. But one thing I failed to mention was that just as there are not-so-nice things being said about her, I've come across a lot of heart-warming praise for her too  

Hey, at least we know she's somebody who gets people 'feeling.' She's one heck of a personality, and this really interests people in all sorts of ways.  

The Sports Fest was a moment, for me relish cuz it SHOWED that Rika gives her best effort no matter what. This is an exhibition to entetain fans yet Rika is there to compete and give nothing less than 110% It is why even though she may not be the strongest, the most talented, or the fastest - you see Rika full on in Gatas Brilliantes. And you see her winning awards in the Sports Fest.

Of all the idols I've ever adored (both male and female) over the years, I don't think I've come across one like Rika, who actually inspires me. She really does. Watching her, I feel like I want to be a better person too.

She's crazy cute and girly, but she doesn't let any of this hold her back (unlike a certain other Musume ). She's fierce and competitive, and she holds her own against others even if she isn't the best out there. You can't help but want to root for her!  

Rika will always rise to the occasion, keep challenging herself to get better, willing to go above and beyond and try new things. Hmm, sounds like a certain kinda forum/website/society/familia?

Hehee... fo sho. Rika's very essence conjured up this community, after all. ^__^

I feel very much the same way. Don't understand why people see that incident as something negative on Rika's part. NO WAY!!! It shows she's more than a cute, little obedient sheep! Rika is one independent woman. Better not get on her bad side

I've seen a bad photo of Rika before, but it was a one-off thing, I'm sure.
Rika has been directly blessed by God's good hand, and as a result, she boasts the IDEAL female physique.
Actually, I think her face is better than her body, even though the latter is holy greatness too. I'm not sure why I don't end up stabbing my screen from jealousy whenever I watch her though...

When I made my cousin watch a H!M episode, she said she found Rika really annoying because of the voice. Normally, I would find such voices really annoying too. Y'know, that anime voice that drives the otakus insane.

BUT, I can't help but adore it... it's such a sweet, feminine voice. It makes Rika so squishable. Not the best singing voice, but she makes it work anyway, and she has definitely improved. H&A is proof.

OH. And her speaking voice is the bomb. It COMMANDS attention, just as her presence does.

One of my favorite Rika vocals is from Sexy Night ~Wasurerarenai Kare~; when she sings "Mu-ri de-mo" I love it to pieces.

AND that Yellow Yellow Happy performance.

I'm glad it's not just me.   I'm a regular on a forum that's REALLY big on vocal talent, and most of them really don't like Rika because of her voice (and because of how "self-centered" she is, but we've already proven this is false). I just listen to performances and recordings, and I just love listening to her voice.

I think that might be the reason they don't like it, though; it has a unique sound, and it's not what you'd normally consider to be the best vocals. I mean, she's not the best vocalist to come out of H!P (IMO that'd be Ayaya), but she's NO WHERE NEAR worst.

I'll have to find Masa's post, though; I have a month off college for winter break with nothing to do, so I'm thinking of making an epic essay/paper with sources proving how Rika>all other H!P members. Naw, Sayu's my friend's favorite, I couldn't do that. I love all the H!P members a lot; I can only think of a couple I kind of dislike, but not many. I'm just REALLY into Rika, and I feel like so many people have these preconceived notions of her that are absolutely false.

You're an English teacher? I might have to ask you a few things about that, since I'm majoring in English/Asian Languages and Literatures (Japanese, in other words ) in college right now.

I'll definitely rely on JPH!P for help, though. I don't know how far this will go and where I'll put it, but it's been begging me to write it, so.
