DUDE!! How bad are the Lakers missing Bynum. They coulda used his big ass against Duncan and the traveling Suns. How about after he dropped a F-BOMB on national TV XD

:O Shaq ain't starting in the all star game. And now he's out 2 weeks too. Here are your starters:

A.I., Kobe, Melo, Duncan and Yao will throw down for the West.
Kidd, D-Wade, LeBron, K.G. and Dwight Howard will represent the East.

Lakers Acquire Gasol From Grizzlies

So Lakers get Pau Gasol and second round draft in 2010 in exchange for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, guard Aaron McKie, draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010.  Great trade for the Lakers!!!

Bye bye Kwame!! :byebye:

Now thats some surprising news.
Can Kobe co-exist with another star player on the team, since Gasol was the go-to guy at the Grizz.

Yea, Kwame was an albatross for the Lakers.
Gonna be interesting to see how it all adds up in the West now, especially if that other 3 way deal gets done with Mavs, Nets, and Blazers.

Wow. I still can't believe Lakers got Gasol. Jerry West be doing his jedi mind gangsta tricks again!! WAY TO GO LOGO!

There's ur answer Jsmurf. ONCE A LAKER, ALWAYS A LAKER! O0

But with all the injuries (Luke, Mihm, Bynum) and a hella lon road trip. Gasol will fit in nicely.

Gotta love Phil Jackson.  “We expect Pau to lead us to a championship immediately,” Jackson said, straight-faced. “We’re going to win 25 in a row.” Lakers still rolled up the Wiz. Who's next? Nets!

When's the trading deadline? I ain't feeling the J-Kidd deal. Dallas is hurting, but they gonna give up too much of the future/depth to get em.

so true.  Lakers FO couldn't have pulled this off without any help.  WEST!

i was surprised the Grizzlies didn't take Odom.  Mitch offered but they didn't want him
they practically just gave us Gasol.  Western conference GM's are pissed

I don't think we need Kidd.  Fish and Farmar should get the job done..
and we'll get to keep Odom, making us the biggest/tallest front court in the NBA (Twin Towers + Odom)

The Memphis Side of the Story

February 1, 2008 8:27 PM

Memphis-based Chris Vernon is one hell of a radio host. Hilarious and crazy dude. He has a bright future.

He also just had Grizzlies' GM Chris Wallace on his show to tell the tale of the Pau Gasol trade.

Wallace has long been a refreshingly candidly interview. He says, for instance, that Marc Gasol "has emerged as a real force in European basketball ... that I believe would have been a first-round pick this year."

On his three-headed point-guard situation with Mike Conley, Jr., Kyle Lowry, and Javaris Crittenton: "We're gonna lock these three guys in a room and see which two emerge, and then we'll trade somebody at some point."

He also adds that the 2008 pick is top-three protected and the 2010 pick is top-six.

TrueHoop reader Sean first let me know about this interview, and points out that if you believe what Wallace says about Marc Gasol, then essentially the Grizzlies got four first-rounders, and a mountain of cap space, for Pau Gasol.

Mannn C-Webb is back. Who'd thunk?

The trades going down. I don't think Kidd will go anywhere. who wants him? Not anyone in the west.

Shiiit Kobe's pinky is hurting. Dude will play thru it tho, unlike LBJ. STeve Nash and Kobe got his deal, where's my deal?? whines LEbron.

Kidd to Cleveland = title. LBJ says: "Yeah, it's that easy." What an idiot. Next Jordan? Next Magic? Whatever man, he doesn't have heart. Mister 4th quarter fuck that shit too. Try to make a fuckin free throw.

Sources: Kidd's trade to Mavs could still happen, but may require Van Horn

The trade to return Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks remained in limbo Thursday, with no clear indication that Mavericks reserve forward Devean George is planning to rescind his right to block the deal.

Yet at least two sources close to the process remained optimistic that the deal will be completed -- either in its original or a substitute form -- before the NBA's annual trading deadline, which falls next Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. Sources say George's agent, Mark Bartelstein, and New Jersey Nets president Rod Thorn were in talks Thursday to clarify the Nets' plans for George, with Thorn hoping to convince Bartelstein and his 30-year-old client to abandon their resistance.

The injury-hit Mavericks were still planning to start George later Thursday against Phoenix in the league's final game before the All-Star break, despite George's refusal to be included in the seven-player blockbuster Dallas agreed to with New Jersey to reacquire Kidd, who shared NBA Rookie of the Year honors with Suns forward Grant Hill in 1995.

After informing the Mavericks that he wouldn't give his consent to be thrown into a Kidd deal
-- a right afforded George via an obscure league rule affecting certain players with one-year contracts -- George suggested late Wednesday in Dallas that he was open to changing his mind.

Seems like this trade just might possibly still go through, but IMO, the Mavs are gutting themselves of good talent just to get Kidd, which won't exactly mean all too much in a stacked Western Conf.

King-size surprise: Hawks, not LeBron's Cavs, get Bibby

The Eastern Conference has finally given us a go-for-it team in this February trading frenzy.

But there's a much bigger news bulletin here.

The breaking and shocking news: It's the famously inert Atlanta Hawks who not only swung the first trade in which the biggest name is going East but, dare we say it, look pretty smart in the process.

It's the Hawks -- widely assumed to be paralyzed by their dysfunctional ownership situation when it comes to making major moves -- who wound up getting Mike Bibby after LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers chased Bibby for more than a year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obstacle snags Kidd deal, but Nets-Mavs still talking

Some renewed hope surfaced Saturday in the ongoing Jason Kidd trade drama, leading officials from both the New Jersey Nets and the Dallas Mavericks to believe that there is a chance their endangered deal can be saved.

Yet with no deal done, going on four days after the clubs reached an agreement in principal on a trade that would send Kidd back to his original team, it's getting harder to classify this as a mere drama.

"This has been more like a mini-series," said one source close to the process. "But I think it's still alive. There's talk."

Kidd himself told reporters at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, referring to Nets president Rod Thorn: "I talked to Rod [on Friday night] and all I can say is that they're still talking."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stern: Sonics to leave Seattle; Hornets could stay in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- Sorry Seattle, there is no saving your Sonics.

That's the feeling of NBA commissioner David Stern, who said Saturday he expects the Seattle SuperSonics to leave the city, either this year or when their lease expires in 2010.

"It's apparent to all who are watching that the Sonics are heading out of Seattle," Stern said during his annual All-Star Weekend news conference. "I accept that inevitability at this point. There is no miracle here."

Stern revealed he encouraged the SuperSonics to make an offer to the city to buy out the remaining two years of the lease to Key Arena. He said the offer, made two days ago, approached $30 million and was rejected.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Superstar trades put emphasis back on the games

NEW ORLEANS -- Let's hear it for big, fat contracts. Money-money-money-monnn-ey -- MON-ayy. Dollar-dollar bills, y'all. Those salary-cap-killing, luxury-tax-inducing contracts -- envied by fans, cursed by owners with buyer's remorse -- are saving the NBA.

You can't wait for the playoffs to start. You have no idea who's going to win it all. And it's all thanks to economics.
