must be the shoes:

Ain't gonna be so easy with Billups and the Nuggets. Dunno about Melo's status.

Bryant's ankle set back to 'square one'

By Dave McMenamin
ESPNLosAngeles.com

Just when Kobe Bryant was starting to quiet his critics, who were calling for him to sit out and rest his fractured right index finger, his tender left ankle could be the injury that finally gets to him.

"It was just hurting today," Bryant said Wednesday night after scoring a season-low five points on 2-for-12 shooting. "Tried to battle through it tonight. It was just stiff. Stiff and tight."

Bryant, who was walking with a limp after the Lakers' 99-97 victory against the Bobcats and visibly wincing in pain during his postgame comments, said the ankle was bothering him before the game even started and its condition declined further when Lamar Odom landed on his left foot just before halftime.

"It just made it worse," Bryant said. "It just set it back to square one."

Bryant left the court to head to the locker room with 12.5 seconds remaining in the second quarter after Odom aggravated the left ankle that Bryant rolled Friday in Philadelphia in a third-quarter collision with Elton Brand.

The ankle limited Bryant in Boston on Sunday, especially affecting his lift. After the game Bryant joked that his elevator usually goes up to the 12th floor but was stuck on the seventh floor against the Celtics.

He seemed to be on the mend Monday in Memphis, scoring 44 points on 16-for-28 shooting.

"He couldn't get off the ground, couldn't get any push off of that ankle tonight," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "He got out there in the third quarter and kind of kept the team in balance, kept us operating out there a little bit."

Jackson played Bryant for the first 3:10 of the fourth quarter before taking him out because of how Bryant's ankle was limiting his play. The Lakers were able to build an eight-point lead with Bryant on the bench, but Jackson subbed him back in when their cushion dwindled to four with 2:55 remaining.

"I really didn't want to have to bring him back but when they closed the gap there in the last two minutes, I think I had to," Jackson said.

"I'll be fine," Bryant said, adding he would be headed home to receive further treatment on the ankle.

Converse never did anything like this with Wade

Edit: Near the end when Wade is 1 on 1 with the defender, notice the guy in the red. Pausing shows its Jordan. Also, those Jordan 2010's are dopeness

Lakers win without Kobe today (and Andrew Bynum) at the Rose Garden in Portland. that ends the 9 game losing streak against Portland's home. all the Lakers stepped up their game. Lamar 21 rebounds. Ron with 3 three pointers including a half court buzzer. Shannon Brown steppin up in Kobe's position. Derek contributing points. stifling Defense by Lakers in the 2nd half. :thumbsup

player of the game = L O

Proposed CBA would limit LeBron deal

By Ric Bucher
ESPN The Magazine

The NBA will put its marquee players on display in next weekend's All-Star Game in Dallas, but the party-like atmosphere is sure to be chilled when the stars learn the details of the collective bargaining agreement offer presented at the end of January by commissioner David Stern to players' union director Billy Hunter.

The proposal, a source familiar with talks said, includes rollbacks that could reduce maximum guaranteed salaries, both for veterans such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, as well as up-and-comers like Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, to almost a third of what they would have been eligible for under the current agreement.

Perhaps the biggest shocker: The owners' proposal includes a provision that would require any pre-existing deals to be revised to conform to the new deal's limits.

The current deal is set to expire as of July 1, 2011. The league's owners have the option to extend it one more year, but they've already made it clear they don't intend to.

"The league has to be careful," said one agent who requested anonymity. "If the top players are united against David, that's going to make for a tough fight. It could get very ugly."

Presenting a new proposal nearly 18 months in advance of the current deal's anticipated expiration is unprecedented, several sources said. Doing so right before All-Star Weekend also seems odd, particularly since Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, the weekend's host owner, has crowed about the event drawing a record 100,000 fans and a surrounding spectacle dwarfing that of the NFL's Super Bowl XLIV.

"It's the most dire economic time, so they want to take advantage of that and scare the players now," the agent said. "It is a negotiation. This is what you do."

The total value for a veteran maximum deal would be well under $60 million and for players currently on rookie salary-scale deals well under $50 million, the source familiar with the proposal said. Fully guaranteed maximum deals also could be a thing of the past, with the proposal allowing for less than half of any contract to be guaranteed.

The mid-level exception and other devices that allow teams over the salary cap to sign free agents also would be abolished, several sources said, effectively creating a hard cap.

Both the league and players association declined to comment on the source's details of the proposal, as did union president Derek Fisher. "David and Billy have decided not to comment until we get to All-Star Weekend and I'll fall in line with those two gentlemen," Fisher said Friday night.

Stern and Hunter are expected to address where negotiations stand on a new labor agreement sometime during the weekend.

Kaman named to All-Star team

ESPNLosAngeles.com news services

Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman was named to the Western Conference All-Star team, replacing Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy, who has an injured right hamstring.

The game, Feb. 14 in Dallas, will be Kaman's All-Star debut.

He is averaging a career-high 20.2 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Kaman is the first Clippers player to be chosen to the All-Star Game since Elton Brand in 2006.

Clippers guard Eric Gordon will participate in the Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, and compete in the first All-Star Slam Dunk-In against Toronto's DeMar DeRozan at halftime of that game.

Roy, in his fourth season with the Blazers, made the All-Star team as a reserve for the third straight season.

it was a pretty meh Slam Dunk Contest and the Shaq vs Dwight Howard beef is one for the geeks

BUT DAMN Jerry sure put on a show. Loved how the seats were all put onto the field unlike some baseball/football stadiums turned basketball arenas.

esp. when Shakira AND Alicia Keys came out :shakeit: :fap

With the trade deadline looming here's some interesting off NY Daily news "Nate Robinson would only agree to a trade if it means him ending up with the Lakers, Celtics or Magic. With Robinson currently on a one-year contract, he has veto power over any trade."

I woulda liked that Adam Morrison-Sasha for Hinrich deal. Need another sharp shooter, esp. with Arizia out.

Sources: Jamison goes to Cavs

By Marc Stein
ESPN.com

Cleveland, Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a three-team deal that will land Antawn Jamison with the Cavaliers as LeBron James' new sidekick instead of Amare Stoudemire, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the deal will also send Zydrunas Ilgauskas' $11.5 million expiring contract and a first-round draft pick from Cleveland to Washington.

The deal also calls for the Wizards to receive Al Thornton from the Clippers, sources said, with L.A. getting forward Drew Gooden, whom Washington acquired in last week's trade with Dallas.

Besides Jamison, Cleveland will also acquire Clippers guard Sebastian Telfair.

Jamison left the arena in Washington before the Wizards' game against the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

After long-running trade talks with Washington and Phoenix, Cleveland opted for the Jamison deal, leaving the Miami Heat as the only known suitor for Stoudemire in advance of Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline.

The Cavs have been chasing Jamison since last season and ultimately preferred this trade in part because they did not have to surrender blossoming young forward J.J. Hickson. The Suns were demanding Hickson along with Ilgauskas' expiring salary for Stoudemire.

Washington relented on its insistence for Hickson because the trade brings more deck-clearing payroll and luxury-tax relief after last week's deal with Dallas that sent Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas.

Jamison to the Cavs is rather intriguing. Really interested how well he meshes with Lebron and Shaq
