Fuck Great Speech at the Hall of Fame. Really choked up myself. Dennis Rodman mad emotional. one of my all time fave power forwards. He was just a workhorse, and I read his book about how he had troubled past and he keeps on trying to do good. Just seeing Phil up there wanting to hug him aww <3

I see now that normally don't care for these players playing in summer leagues and tourneys because we had the season. With the season likely not to happen, I am watching these things like a mad man. Also have been watching their workouts. Not only for my own benefit but because we might not get much more.

strike stop

Quote from: Lakers Newsletter
We appreciate your continued patience as the NBA and the NBA Players Association negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement. Since no such agreement has been reached at this time, the league has postponed player training camps and cancelled preseason games scheduled through October 15th.

Please know that you are a vital part of the Lakers, and we value your support.

We want to assure you that the league's efforts are focused on reaching an agreement that benefits all parties involved. The NBA's goal is to secure a sustainable business model that enables all 30 teams to compete for a championship, fairly compensates players, and ensures a world-class experience for our fans.

We recognize that without our fans, there would be no NBA. Your passion for the game is what motivates us, and we do not take your support for granted. The league will continue to work toward a new collective bargaining agreement so that we can get back to enjoying the excitement of NBA basketball.

Thank you again for your support and your continued loyalty to the Lakers.

Sincerely,

Tim Harris
Senior Vice President, Operations/CMO

PLEASE FISH HELP EM. At least there's the NBDL!

James Worthy had a helluva career. The big man from Gastonia, NC took home a title with the Tar Heels and became an intricate part of the Showtime Lakers dynasty during the ’80s. ^ I wish I could say Fish could solve everything but it can't be only him to do it, its an unfortunate truth, and it will be said:

KOBE YOU GREEDY, SELFISH, A$$HOLE WHY DON'T YOU BE THE FACE OF THE LOCKOUT THAN FINDING A PLACE TO PLAY

I understand what he is doing but he has to become what is needed to get rid of the lockout, like the NFL lockout, stars are the catalyst behind the player representative IMHO.

I should also point out others that should be pushing for it but I think Kobe is the key to getting rid of it, even if he decides to retire within the CBA agreement, make it better for the future than thinking about the present

Don't get me wrong, Kobe is still the player that everyone should look up to in performance, but if you want to become the icon of all things NBA, please let Kobe take over the negotiations with Fish's brains doing the technical work

Really? Your true Laker Hater colors showing again Kuro. Why so fucking serious.

Ever heard of all the superstars going at it in the negotiation tables? That Wade was ready to go at Stern? AND THIS IS JUST RUMOURS because nobody knows what goes on even those "insider" fuckers at ESPN, so don't really take there gossiping 24/7 as reality and have an open mind. There is several billion layers to this onion than meets the eye. IT IS HILARIOUS everyone cares what Kobe and where he's signing because he is the biggest superstar ever, but ever heard of it as a decoy? To make Stern sweat. You really think Kobe is gonna just go overseas and risk injury? HASH TAG SMH

Fisher was voted league president cuz he's smart and calm but there's many other player reps in there working it. No wonder you don't post much text kuro.

The message was out of frustration not because of the Laker hater aspect (Still am but wasn't aiming solely at the Lakers)  Fish has been taking the hits of the negotiation but I like to think that Kobe be willing to help rather than avoid or even present the issue of playing overseas.  I guess if he is being confident then yes my thing was an overreaction.  But if Stern's next threat is to cancel the whole season, you might as well send in all of them to save the season, but I really don't want them to accept because of that issue but knowing business the players may just take it for what it is worth.

I think you're overestimating how much power Kobe has in this situation.
This is bigger than just Stern vs. Fish; the lockout is about the owners and the players.
As NBPA president, Fisher represents the 430 NBA players.
As a player, Kobe only has the authority to represent himself.

With a CBA, it's a complex piece of negotiation with profound, long-lasting effects for the entire league.
The sticking points that are keeping the players and the owners from reaching a new agreement are ones that Kobe is neither entitled nor qualified to negotiate.
It's just not as simple as saying "Kobe could end the lockout".

By all accounts, Kobe is a single-minded basketball playing machine who works as much on his game as anyone else in the league.
This is what makes him a great player.

What he isn't is a leader and speaker for the hundreds of NBA players whose livelihood is at stake here.
Fisher, as the president of the NBPA, is all of the above and by all accounts is exactly the right person for the job:
Quote from: Sports Illustrated
Fisher has worked hard to extend the reach of his office, and union insiders say that no player leader has had a better, more nuanced grasp of the CBA or been better able to articulate a vision for the union.
I recommend taking a look at the article quoted above if you want to know what exactly is at stake here.
Any meaningful discussion of the lockout requires everyone to be informed.

Besides, it's unfair to just pick on Kobe for this.
By singling him out, you're basically discounting all the other star players in the league.

^ I understand what the mistake was from my part, but I guess the stars have a need to represent themselves for the present, and I hate the way more or less that progression is slow and the feeling is IMHO, the stars will practice and the others will just have to suck it up to find real jobs.  It may be too early to tell but someone has to force their hand to be exposed.  Whoever that may be, will be praised for trying.

Even though I am a huge fan of the NBA (Go Bulls!), I am kind of glad the season is at least partially cancelled. I'm hoping the cancellation will help the NHL increase their popularity due to the possibility of NBA fans tuning into the NHL instead and becoming fans of hockey. Also, the people who watch both sports like me won't have to painstakingly choose which game to watch if both their NHL and NBA teams are playing at the same time.

aiyo Kuro, like I said in my PM i want everyone here to know I apologize for my comments cuz I went way too personal. Hey, I live and die sports and Kobe and the Lakers is to me what H!P Eggs is to shirenu lol

I modeled our sports forum as our free for all smack talk place that is beyond the normal JPH!P Rules like that of a sports talk show, it's how me, Masa and Thimas built that unwritten rule here but it can get crazy just ask that bitch ytl who hasn't said a peep since the Lakers went on their title run XD

That saying. FUCK if we have to live with tweets of Lebron saying he wants to be an NFL player months after Delonte West filled out his application for home Depot  we gotta move on with these negotiations! cuz it's lame news fodder. they wanna expand teams to small markets who can't even sustain a team like Charlotte. We all love our NBA but with NFL and MLB playoffs in full swing, do we care if it's a 50 game season? I DO . FUCK THAT ASTERISK Title that plagues the 1999 Spurs.  If those paychecks stop coming, can the marquee players really subsidize enough? DO THEY WANT TO. And just close down the WNBA lol

All we got left is ELITEKICKS

anyone cop Jerry West's new book? He was signing autographs in the LA area the past weekend. SHOCKING FUCKING revelations

well, we all know about him and Phil but the shit he get thrown to the side like that, getting F-bombed?! :tama-mad: and his battles with depression. glad it's the story he had to tell and not some "biographer"

DOWN TO THE WIRE. Whatever negotiations now it gets hot. NBA has no legs to stand on if they let 2011 games slip away. At least we can also rest on Magic ripping Lebron
