Outgrowing the Canadian hip-hop scene, the talented MC is now broadening his reach and will be at M1NT this Weds 26th of August.
We asked him a few questions ahead of his visit.
You've said that you don't feel like people really listen to lyrics in hip-hop anymore. Can you elaborate on this? There are now more artists who are taking time to raise the lyrical bar back up again in hip-hop. Kid Cudi, Drake, J-Cole, K'naan and others. For awhile, it seemed like rappers were getting lazy, but I think that trend is passing...Hip-hop as we know it is constantly evolving.
How do you feel you've contributed to the evolution and where do you see hip-hop going over the next few years?I think that the energy and unique styling approach that I take with every album, verse, beat etc. has helped propel hip-hop to a place where people actually feel excitement and are curious to see what can be created within the genre. I see hip-hop becoming a lot more international-in terms of sound an appeal. The internet in fueling that fire.
What do you have playing on your iPod at the moment? On my ipod I have 10,000 songs. Some of my most recent acquisitions are Slaughterhouse, Sean Paul...
What are you working on at the moment?I am finishing up the full length album "Mr.International". Some friends that will appear on it are Estelle, Rock City, Akon, Colin Munroe, Slim from 112 and others...
What can we expect from you in Hong Kong?Absolute fire and excitement!!!! ENERGY!!!
