Oshima Yuko to receive ‘popularity award’ from Maeda Atsuko at “The 36th Japan Academy Prize”

It was announced on the radio show “Ninety-nine no All Night Nippon (aka ANN)”, that AKB48’s Oshima Yuko has been elected for the popularity award (actor/actress category) of “The 36th Japan Academy Prize.”

The popularity award is the only award that is elected based on the votes by the listeners of ANN and it is given to the most favored work and actor/actress by the young generation. Oshima displayed her impressive acting in the movie “Yamikin Ushijima-kun“, and she commented, “I am really happy that I was able to receive this award with my work as an actress.”

At the awarding ceremony (to be held on March 8th), former AKB48 member Maeda Atsuko who received the same award last year, will be there as a presenter, and she will hand the certificate of merit to Oshima, thus, the fans can expect Maeda and Oshima’s 2-shots at the ceremony. Maeda congratulated Oshima, with, “Congratulations for the award Yuko! I’m glad that we will be able to stand on the same stage of the Japan Academy Prize. I’m looking forward to seeing her at the awarding ceremony.”

For the film category of the popularity award, Kamiki Ryonosuke’s starring movie “Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutteyo” has been elected. Kamiki also left a comment, “I’m really honored to receive this wonderful award.”

The Japan Academy Prize awarding ceremony which will be held on March 8th, will be aired on NTV at 9:00 pm, and Nippon Broadcasting System will also broadcast the special radio program “All Night Nippon GOLD The 36th Japan Academy Prize Special” starting at 10:00 pm.

Congratulations to Yuko for the award! I hope with this, people will recognize her more as an actress.
And needless to say, it's really great to see both Acchan and Yuko on stage together as actresses. What a rare AtsuYuu moment, I might say. First thing went to my mind when I saw the pics, it's like, the future's depicted there, that we would see these two girls, either Acchan or Yuko, in the years to come receiving awards that recognize their outstanding work as actresses.

But Yuko seemed kind of uneasy, didn't she? Or is it just me? :nervous
It suddenly reminds me of this video below which shows her uneasiness at a big event.

Let's hope that she'll appear more at big events like these so that she can overcome her uneasiness. :D

On March 8, the awarding ceremony for the “36th Japan Academy Prize” was held at Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, Tokyo, and Kamiki Ryunosuke’s starring movie “Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutteyo” was the big winner, being selected for the “Picture of the Year”, “Director of the Year”, and “Outstanding Achievement in Film Editing.”

The movie also received the popularity award (for the picture category), and Hashimoto Ai and Higashide Masahiro who both appeared in the film, have been chosen as two of the winners for the “Newcomer of the Year.”

The director of the film Yoshida Daihachi shared his delight, “Thank you. I’m really surprised at this since I never expected to receive this much. I was able to film it freely with the way I wanted, and first of all, I would like to thank the producer for that. Then the young actors, as well as the staff members who let those young actors have the place to work to their complete satisfaction. I feel gratitude toward all of them from bottom of my heart.”

When the announcement for the Picture of the Year was made, Hashimoto Ai shed tears, and said, “I’m happy to see the director’s joyful face.” Higashide who made his acting debut with the film, also said, “Kamiki-kun, the lead of this movie, could not attend today because of his work. It would have been great if all of us were here, but our hearts are one, so we will have a dinner party at my place later.”

“Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutteyo” is based on Asai Ryo’s award-winning novel of the same name, and the story starts where the most popular student at the school, and the captain of the school volleyball team, “Kirishima” suddenly quits the team. This news about Kirishima shocks the entire school, and it also causes distortion among students which brings a disruption of the hierarchy at the high school.

My 2nd post goes to the other half of Oshiri Sisters.

^
^ She doesn't look that uneasy to me. It kinda looks like a situation she finds herself in quite often. I dunno why, but I'll always wonder why the Japanese are still so into flip phones =)

^ Congrats to Yuko! Let's hope she works on another movie so she can shoot for the coveted actress awards.

^^ From one of the upcoming SPEC movies, from Oricon yesterday:

It was announced that upcoming movie “SPEC ~Close~“, which is the concluding episode of the “SPEC” series, will be a 2 part movie titled “Gekijouban SPEC ~Close~ Zen no Hen” and “Gekijouban SPEC ~Close~ Kou no Hen.” Both parts will be  released successively this fall.

“SPEC” series started as a serial drama (on TBS) that aired back in October of 2010, and it follows the odd duo of “Toma Saya” (played by Toda Erika) and “Sebumi Takeru” (played by Kase Ryo), who are the special agents of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau and tackle difficult and mysterious cases related to criminals with certain special abilities (called as “SPEC HOLDER”). There was also a special drama “SPEC ~Sho~” (aired in April 2012), as well as a movie “SPEC ~Ten~” (released in April 2012).

Additionally, it was announced that Mukai Osamu and Oshima Yuko will be making appearances as well. Mukai’s role will be “Sekai”, a mysterious man in white, who appeared in the last scene of the previous movie “SPEC ~Ten~”, and Oshima’s role will be a mysterious woman who will be the key to the story.

Nikkan Sports (13.04.23) - Interview with Oshima Yuko

Yuko’s thoughts toward the 32nd Single Senbatsu Elections

Quote
Expectations

”Is everyone that hesitant to join the elections?” Oshima’s first sentence is the portrayal of her laid-back attitude. Of the 8 days application period, she only submitted her application early in the morning, on the day before the deadline. This had made many fans felt uneasy and speculate whether she would withdraw from the elections.

Oshima:

Ahaha, I’m so sorry everyone. As the venue to register is the AKB Theaters, over the last few days, I had no chance to go there at all, so I thought, I might as well wait till the handshake event to submit it directly, it is a simple problem that has to do with my schedule. Sorry to have let everyone worry about me. However, I am also aware of how people would inevitably ask me questions regarding the topic of the elections, thus I thought that I must definitely submit my application first thing in the morning before the handshake event.

Before the elections last year, Oshima expressed “I’m unsure of what the year ahead will be like”. The Election Laureate also said to Watanabe Mayu on the stage where she was throned as first place, that she is entrusting the future to her. This caused us to think there is a possibility that she may sit out of the elections this coming year.

Oshima:

This is because many fans think that I have fought my way through (for the elections), and hence diligently gave their votes to me. Thinking that this will give them a significant amount of burden, the idea of ‘Perhaps it’s better if I quit’ would flash by my mind. But thinking about it, as long as I’m in AKB, what’s the point if I don’t join in the elections. Besides, everyone is also thinking of the change of generations. I feel that it is only when someone overtakes me that the true succession can take place. This is a responsibility that a senior cannot escape from.

From the first elections to the third elections, it was always a decisive battle between Maeda Atsuko and Oshima Yuko for first place. Last year, in the case of her rival leaving, Oshima aimed towards winning the elections as a way to guard over AKB. As for this year, there is no longer a personal goal.

Oshima:

Till last year, there was always a pressure to “Come in first place no matter what”, but this year, there is completely no such feeling. Even participating in the elections, was taking into account that this is better off for the group as a whole. I have decided to no longer feel tangled towards my own placing. No matter the outcome, I would not be depressed. I look forward to this ceremony from the bottom of my heart.

Oshima said this all with a smile without an ounce of regret. Still, her only worry is the support from her fans.

Oshima:

If my fans interpreted the ‘expectation (look forward)’ I said as coming in first place, then I have to apologize. During the handshake meetings, they would say to me, “Thank you for participating in the elections!”, but as for me who thought that I have just created an extra burden for them, all I wanted to say is, “Why do you have to thank me? What do you all take me as?” I really felt fearful for them.

Using votes as a means of expressing their love. Fans receive joy from being given an opportunity to do this, and Oshima who carries a fearful heart for them, expresses her deepest gratitude towards these fans. Their interrelationship have caused even Oshima’s mother to be in awe.

Oshima:

Seeing the votes that have amounted to over a hundred thousand, she was shocked. This love and care for one another is the reality of the handshake events and the elections right. My mother said, “Give and Take”, even though it’s no fancy term, but if the relationship you have built up with your fans can be described uprightly like this, then all of you are really amazing. To me, the election is the moment for me to enjoy the love given by my fans, so please, let me continue to look forward to it.

Oshima’s elections is not a desire for honor but a response towards her fans’ love. And at the same time, become a stepping stone for the younger generations. She is most aware of the nature of AKB, and continue to forge ahead in the road to ultimate idol.
Big thanks to Weird Concoctions for this translation. :thumbup

I'm glad that this year's election doesn't put that much of a pressure on her. I knew it that she doesn't care about her position. She's really focused on doing things for the better of the group and she's really worked hard for that and I hope someday Aki-P will give her something in return for all the things she has done.
