Chapter 78 A light brown-haired girl pushed through the double doors of the hospital and ran into the hallway, followed by the yankii idol. She saw her friend balled up on a small bench with her own girlfriend next to her. Across from them was her cousin’s pianist friend, who was standing with her back against the wall, glaring down at the tile floor.
“What happened?” Eri growled. “Where’s Sayumi?”
“She’s in the emergency room,” Ai whispered. “She’ll be okay; the ambulance got to her fast.”
“Risa, what exactly happened?” Eri said through her teeth. “How the hell did Sayumi get hit by a car?”
“It’s all my fault,” Risa mumbled, clenching her fists around her hair. “I shouldn’t have just left her there… it’s all my fault, I should’ve stopped…”
Eri gritted her teeth and turned to face the panda. “Do you want to tell me what happened since Risa seems to be busy blaming herself?”
“Gaki-san is right,” Junjun muttered. “It
is all her fault.”
“Don’t give me any of that bullshit!” Eri shouted, exploding with anger. “My one and only cousin is in the freaking
emergency room! I don’t care whose fault it was; I want to know how she got there and whether she’ll come back out safe and sound! So somebody better start telling me what’s going on right now, damn it!”
“Calm down, Eri,” Reina whispered, putting a hand on the turtle’s shoulder. “This is a hospital; you have to keep your voice down.”
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” Eri shrilled. “Sayumi just got hit by a
car! She already has a weak body! What if… what if she doesn’t pull through?”
She paused for a while as little crystals of tears started to form at the corner of her eyes. The younger girl pulled her into a hug in an effort to console her.
“She’s going to be fine, baby,” the yankii whispered. “Your cousin may be weak physically but she’s strong-willed. She’ll make it, don’t worry.”
“It’s all my fault, Eri,” Risa mumbled, tightening her arms around her legs. “I’m so sorry… It’s all my fault…”
“Don’t say that,” Ai murmured. “It wasn’t your fault, it was an accident.”
At that moment, the red light above the room they were all waiting outside of turned off. A man with glasses dressed in all green walked out, holding a clipboard.
“Michishige Sayumi?” he announced.
“Yes?” Risa answered, immediately standing up.
“Are you a legal family member of the patient?”
“That’s me,” Eri replied, wiping away the tears on her face. “How’s my cousin? What happened?”
“Thankfully, the car didn’t hit her as hard as we thought,” the doctor said, flipping through the papers in his hand. “A few broken ribs, fracture in her left arm, a broken left leg, and lots of bruises. She’ll have to stay with us for a while, so she’s already been transferred to her room. She’s in shock so she’s asleep now, but she didn’t suffer any serious head injuries so she should wake up in a couple days.”
“Thank goodness,” Eri sighed. All the tension that had built up seemed to come tumbling down, unbuckling her knees. Reina caught her before she could slide down to the floor. “Reina-chan, she’s going to be alright. Sayumi is going to be okay…”
“I told you,” the yankii smiled gently. “Next time I tell you to calm down, you better calm down.”
“We should go see her,” Eri mumbled. “Can we go see her?”
“She’s in her usual room,” the doctor said before walking away.
The two girls walked through the double-doors and disappeared. Risa finally unclenched her fists and leaned on her girlfriend’s shoulder.
“Thank goodness…” she whispered. “Thank goodness she’s okay…”
“I think you deserve some rest now,” Ai said. “It’s been a long morning. You didn’t even eat yet.”
“I don’t deserve anything,” Risa mumbled. “I want to see Sayu.”
“Gaki-san,” Junjun called, finally opening her mouth for the first time. “May I speak to you for a while
alone?”
Her eyes were cold and black as she glared at the bean. Risa understood why she was getting this treatment from the panda though; after all, she had just harmed the girl that she was in love with. Junjun’s lips were pursed tightly with her fists clenched. It looked as though she wanted to throw a punch right then and there. In an odd way, Risa kind of wanted her to hit her. She felt that she should accept any kind of punishment in her way.
“Of course, Jun,” Risa answered, standing up. “We can go outside.”
“I’m going with you,” Ai said, resting her hand on the bean’s shoulder protectively. She had seen the killing-intent in the pianist’s eyes.
“No, this is between me and Junjun,” Risa whispered. “You stay here.”
Before the idol could protest, her lover followed the black-haired girl out of the hallway. An uneasy feeling built up inside her stomach. Would her girlfriend be safe? What did Junjun want to talk about with Risa? Where would this event leave them in the future?
