Thought about popping this link here in this post. I am truly impressed how there's 101 tips, techniques and advices on writing fiction in general. Only went through about the first five so far and I'm loving it! Each one has their own link and author of the article/site that hits upon a certain topic ranging from what to avoid for a plot starter and how to increase tension to writing action scenario and adding emotional value rather than just adverbs into the story. Hopefully this is helpful to those writing and even to those planning to write! :)

Just to set the record straight...

Here, I will state my feeling. I thought delete an old account and create new will change the way, I want to start a new and Daigong promise me to keep this as secret, now you guys bashed me? Thanks guys, and Sorry Jul3, You're so hot! :wriggly:

To KimTan/Ryuuka/Rukaeru (it's the same person anyway):

While it is fine to start anew under a different username, it is not fine to create yet another account and pretend to be two different people and confuse the general community. You already established yourself as a new writer under 'KimTan'. Why the need to register a second account under your old username 'Rukaeru'? What was your purpose in holding two accounts and pretending to be two different individuals?

Honestly, no one is bashing you. It is a rule of thumb on the internet - not just in JPH!P - that abusing multiple accounts is not tolerated. This is a forum where many users come together. Please understand that we have to keep the order in this community to ensure a smooth forum experience for all.

There shall be no further discussion on this topic in this thread as this is a place for discussions on writing and fanfictions. Any further posts related to this issue shall be removed without notice. If you have anything else to say, please do so via PM.

Thank you.

It doesn't matter if you have skills or not. Like imteedee said, it's the first push that counts. Once you start writing, you will know yourself of what you lack, what you need and such. So it's your choice. But... yeah... your idea DOES sound kinda fun

Though I don't have too much time in my hand due to school and other priorities, I am willing to help you organize your ideas into a fiction that you can write. :)

Now in regard to your statement of having no talent to be a writer and it's 'impossible' to be an author, I understand the busy part but it's never impossible until you put your mind into it. I can tell you that when I started off writing, I... It was terrible. For example, this is one of my first work after a long hiatus from two years ago:

Quote
*SOS Brigade room*

Haruhi S.: *slams hand onto desk* "Everyone! We will be visiting a host club! >:'D"

Kyon: "Hah...? o.o;"

Yuki: "..."

Mikuru: "E-E-Eh?! @.@" *almost spills tea from her tray*

Koizumi: "Well well... Isn't this interesting? A host club, huh?" *smiles*

Kyon: *recovering from shock* "Is there a reason Haruhi wants to go to a host club? Isn't it a place where men goes and make a women feel happy or something? o.O"

Yuki: “Hosts are sort of heterosexual male sex workers, but they do not sell ‘sex,’ though it can happen outside of the club. It is more of a companionship, like a hostess club. Or their work is similar to escorts, but much more institutionalized."

Kyon: "..."

Yuki: *stops reading her book and looks up to Kyon* "That is merely what a 'Host Club' means."

Kyon: "Er... Okay then... -.-"

[Gathered from the FXN Forum thread]

Talk about scary. And that definitely does not have the word 'talent' nor 'good' written anywhere on the work. Literally. I would say you're lying if you think this is good. I view it as HORRENDOUS. Now with this, I could as well continue to write in style even till now. But I've made the effort to change it. Because I wanted to do better. Though it took a good half year to revert back to writing into paragraph format (and it's still horrendous at that point), I made the effort to change my writing style. Continuing to write for a good while, I've developed the skills that led me to who I am as a writer and my placement. But even still at this time I want to be better and do more than what my capability is right now. I'm not at my best and will strive to become better at this skill.

My point is that when you want to write it, you might as well start doing it. I'm not trying to sound harsh but an idea from a single person is best delivered to the audience by themselves. :sweatdrop: Like if I were playing a flute, I wouldn't want to throw my musical instrument to a professional player and tell them to play a piece I've written. It would be nice to hear the piece being played out, but it's not coming from you yourself. It just lacks something... (And sadly I can't put my finger on it.) So my advice to you is to do your best at sorting out the ideas and writing it. I'm here to help in terms of supporting, revising and giving tips, but I'm honestly the wrong person to ask to write something for another person unless it's a collaboration project. A new writer doesn't just spurt out one day as a new seed and have a one million hit views/likes/comments or whatever instantly. It's hard work, experiences and knowledge that'll build up depending on your ethics.

I wish you many luck into writing the idea of yours if you ever decide to do it. :thumbsup

@olive29: There's no such thing as you have no talent. What you lack in talent, you make it up with hard work.

Another topic for writers:

What motivates you to write?

Yep, just as simple as that. Could be for fame, for fun, etc.

@Yuki88:

Again, you made me think about stuff I never stop to think about. I probably decided to give fanfic writing a shot because I saw it as something new and challenging.

Fiction is a completely new genre to me, and it's been fun "studying" various fiction writing styles. Also, I enjoy having the opportunity to use vocabulary that usually never surfaces in non-fiction writing.

Bringing these two characters together is yet another new and exciting challenge for me. I'm really hoping that my story will inspire others to write about this "unusual pairing" because I wish to read more fics containing my OTP.

Motivation to write is finding the purpose and to tell the story to people who are waiting for it.  Also when the idea comes, you cannot let it go which can happen in the early hours when you are at 2 hours of sleep.

Olive talent means nothing if you are not willing to try.  You cannot be afraid because even if people are critical, we are here to help. :))

What motivates me to write?:

Now that I think about it...

(me: shino, I'm sure you have no clue on that)
(devil me: because you want to conquer the world!!! Wahahaahahhaaaa! <- evil laughter)
(angel me: No, it's the moe and kawaii and the ...Moe! that brings the motivation.)
(me: oh, tenshino, that's a good point! Moe is the work of kami-sama... )
(devil me: naw... that's no- wait... actually it's true.)
(angel me: well, shino, you are an otaku that loves kawaii after all.)

conclusion: because cute things make me fantasize and I want to write them down. And then, since I started, I just end up keep on going, and that's where all the motivation comes from- even though to tell the truth, I'm lazy so I don't do anything unless I get the burst of glittery sparkles and nyahappy-ness.

What motivates you to write?

When I first wrote, the main motivation was to merely vent. That was all. All of my emotions needed to find a hole to pour out. And since in the past I had limited view on my ways to release those feelings, writing was one of the very few. Which... could explain why I specialize in angst genre, LOL. But currently as of right now, I write for the joy of my imagination becoming words. And aside expressing my joy in words, I'm able to share my fantasy with others. It's merely for fun. Also sometimes a message to the readers I wish to deliver. :)

What motivates you to write?

I've never even thought of that! :monster:

Well, there are a few things that motivates me to write stuff. One of them being my love for the characters and how I want to spread the love to the readers. One could say that I write simply what I love and how I see them. Like if someone sees Takamina as our chibi Soukantoku who is cutesy-cutesy, I see her as a... Man. Then writing Takamina to be a man is what motivates me to write about Takamina!

The other thing that motivates me to write is the fun of it. Like making your fantasies come true or something. I love writing what I see in my head. And when others read it, people would see what I see, and when that happens, it basically means that I have made the fantasies become reality. Not like it would happen in real life. But if it happens in fiction, then I'm glad for it.

This's the first time for me to give a comment in this thread, because I'm not a good author either.  :P

Hi Olive-san... :)
I'm here because I saw your reply.

I wanna know about those 2 ideas. :P

To be honest... I'm busy too. Everyday, I have to deal with my work stuff and my college too.
But, nothing is impossible here as long as you try to put your heart into it.
For me, if I'm too tired to write my fanfic.. I'll just write it on the weekend, I'm not going to force myself to finish it right away.

You said that you have no talent?!  :shocked
The way you always gave your comments to my fanfics, you have talent to become a storyteller!  XD
Your questions always gave me some inspirations about 'what should I write in the next chapter?'  :D

You have so many awesome ideas, you can put those ideas into your list one by one.
And then... you can re-arrange those ideas become some points for your fanfic.
It'll be easier for you to write a fanfic and develop the story.... if you already had the main points for each chapter.

I hope it'll help you.
Good job my friend.  :twothumbs

This quote is something that is "a must" to post on this discussion thread.

“I want to say something about bad writing. I’m proud of my bad writing. Everyone is so intelligent lately, and stylish. Fucking great. I am proud of Philip Guston’s bad painting, I am proud of Baudelaire’s mamma’s boy goo goo misery. Sometimes the lurid or shitty means having a heart, which’s something you have to try to have. Excellence nowadays is too general and available to be worth prizing: I am interested in people who have to find strange and horrible ways to just get from point A to point B.”
- Ariana Reines

I must also highly recommend reading this link, which is where I got the quote from: http://rookiemag.com/2013/04/the-quiet-importance-of-angst-y-art/

Alright, I was going through many of the writers' blogs and researching some writing techniques when I stumbled upon this blog. Boy, I could say this really does... catch my attention. :sweatdrop: But on a serious note, I really would like to see what others would say about this quote.

So my question is: What do you think about the quote? Do you agree or disagree? Also, what do you think about the article? Once again, do you agree or disagree with the author? Finally, are you able to relate to the quote's meaning and/or the author of the article?

And I have some sort of feeling that this is going to get really heated, so let's stick with a friendly debate and remember that these are opinions we are talking about. :nervous I'll speak to my own accord later on when I'm actually in the mood to type up (again) a long explanation to my thoughts about this quote and the article in general. :)

@LoyalFlutist:

Honestly, I am unable to agree or disagree with the author. I see her point of view, and respect her fortitude to go forth writing whatever she wishes to write. However, I do agree that a lot of artists are the kind of people who simply let go without a care in the world. I admire these people who are able to go on doing what they love, completely disregarding what others may think.

I would not be able to do that. My entire life, I've been taught to do things a certain way, and have been doing this for so long now that it's already become a part of me. My writing is probably a great example of what the author has referred to as "heavily polished, finely wrought, carefully constructed prose … of mind-numbing boredom" (on page 2).

Writing this story is perhaps my debut attempt at trying to let go (a little). It hasn't been easy. I get so embarrassed already while writing just a tiny bit of fluff.

Re: angst. There is a time and place for everything. For example, The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger has become such a classic, and I believe it is filled with angst. Personally, I couldn't read it, simply because I am unable to identify with those feelings. (I guess I'm just not an angst-y person.)

Haha, to be quite honest, that's what makes literature fun in reading: the depth of analysis. Even when I write, I try to read it from the pov of the reader and analyze what I write. That helps me finding out what needs to be improve and what needs to be cut out of the story. But then again, peer assessment is also necessary because I might be biased and missing things.

To be quite honest, the writer of the article was lucky to have a family that praises her... works. I don't have such a privilege in my family and I end up feeling insecure very easily in whatever I do, creating self-doubt almost all time. But I guess that helps me that I become someone who keeps her feet on the ground all the time. Praises are great, but critics and suggestions are even better. (Although I'm a little hard headed person so you might have to do it in hard way lol).

As for angst, I like angst as a reader but as a writer, I don't have the capability to deliver the angst in mind (yet). Same as kurumi, though, angst is not something I can relate with. I live a boring, average life, haha.

Typically, I write most of my stuff after 6 PM and when I'm sleepy. (It might just be that I'm too lazy to write when I'm active...)
But I'm curious~ in what situation do you write the most efficiently in?
