Fire and Ice 2Final chapter
Sayaka's POVSae's back was deeply stabbed by one of Jun's ice shards.
"I told you I wouldn't grow weak."
Sae tightened his grip and knelt down to the ground.
"... You don't need to worry."
"Sae, stay with me! Please don't die!"
"I'll be just fine..."
"No, you're not fine! If you don't take care of this soon, you'll-"
"No!"
His sudden voice startled me. He was holding on to me tight, tears falling freely from his eyes.
"No. Because, I protected you... As long a-as you're... s-still alive..." He slid closer and held me tight again. I could feel his warmth slowly fade away as time passed.
"I'm not afraid of dying..."
Jun crawled over and stumbled a bit in his step.
"You should be!"
He pushed the ice deeper into his back, making him scream in pain.
I pulled the ice out of his back and threw it into his chest, stabbing it.
Sae fell to the ground, losing his life energy. He could only barely sit up and struggled to keep his eyes open.
I picked up his body and held it close to me.
I could no longer control my tears, and let all my truest feelings out.
"This can't happen. I can't let you stay here and die..."
I could see Yuko watching me, having a worried look on her face, but I ignored it. All I cared about that one moment was Sae.
"What should I do? I'll be all alone now! Even though I found someone to love... Even though I met someone I can truly love..."
One of my tears fell down on Sae's cheek. He slowly raised his hand and cupped it in my cheek.
"You still... cried... I w-was always happy to see your face..."
He looked down and raised my own hand, letting it caress his cheek.
"We s-said... w-we'd always be together..."
"We will."
I brought myself in closer to his face and cupped my hand in his cheek. He smiled and did the same.
"I'm not afraid of anything anymore. I'll always be right here, with you... I'll protect you... Always. I promise."
"Thank you..."
I closed my eyes and held his hand, feeling every last bit of his warmth.
"Th-th-thank y-you... so mu-..."
I felt his hand turn cold and lifeless. When I opened my eyes, his skin was pale white and his eyes were closed.
"No, not yet! Don't go yet!"
I held on his hand tighter, trying to get him to respond.
"Look. Our love is here! The love between the two of us is..!"
The sound of his voice, his eyes, everything about him that was important to me...
Just like that, all of it was gone.
After a while, I released the grip on his hand and it slipped out. I grabbed it again before it fell on the ground.
"Sae, don't die!"
"Don't you see? He's already gone! He's slowly turning to dust in your arms..."
I could feel his body slowly crumbling away, but I never wanted to accept it. I couldn't let go of him when I just came back to him.
"...No."
"Huh?"
"No, I won't accept this!"
I picked him up a bit and lightly kissed him. As I let go, he still wasn't breathing. I shook my head and kissed him again, more intense than the last time.
"Why won't you let go?"
I tried breathing into him, but it became harder as the rest of his blood flowed out.
"I don't want to! I don't want anyone, but him!"
"Fine... If I can't have you," he said slowly picking up another ice shard, "NO ONE CAN!!!"
Please... Sae...
Let me see your smile, your light...
Just one more time...As I kissed him one more time, another tear fell on his sword. It suddenly burst into blue flames and surrounded us.
End of Sayaka's POV"This can't be..."
Yuki smiled from behind the tree.
"The flames of rebirth. If those could be created, then she really does have the crystal within her."
The flames became bigger and more intense.
Eventually, they engulfed Jun within it, melting the ice, and killing him.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!"This kind of fate... is best fitted for a demon..."
Yuki turned around and left the park. Yuko and the others were frozen in their position, glad that he was defeated. But, Yuko was still worried about Sayaka.
As the fire disappeared, Sae's body was completely healed and his hair shined a brighter white than ever. As for Sayaka, the fire gave her one violet streak in her hair.
All the blood melted away like sand and he slowly opened his eyes.
Once their gaze met again, he smiled and hugged her tight.
"Sae... If it means we get to be this way forever, then..."
They slowly parted and met each other's eyes again.
"Then, let's do it."
Sae bit his lower lip, but smiled. As he looked down, he noticed a silver, rose-shaped broach in his hand.
"Is this...?"
"This, like the rose you gave me, will be our prized possession."
The silver rose crystal left Sayaka's body and was created into a broach form that would always protect them.
He pinned it on Sayaka's shirt and moved her hair to let the moon shine on it.
"Sae..."
"If that is what must be done..."
He moved Sayaka's hair back, revealing the perfect space in her neck.
"To you, eternal life."
He slowly went in and bit her neck. As the venom flowed through her body, she held him close to her and absorbed all the renewed warmth of her boyfriend.
Yuko slowly got up and started to leave.
"Yuko?"
"Where are you going?"
"... It's over. I think they'll be just fine now."
As she walked off, the others soon followed her and left.
Sae released himself and met Sayaka's gaze again. They both smiled and kissed each other once more.
"You're not afraid, right?"
"No. As long as the two of us are together, we're strong. So, I'm not afraid as long as you're with me."
"I'll always be with you. I promise."
They stood up and held each other's hands again, looking up at the starry sky.
Just like the starry sky...
From now on, we are infinite.And, that moment,
As the last piece of ice melted away,
They finally awakened a new, everlasting love...
And revealed the greatest treasure of all.
