Yuri Case No 1: Love Under the Sakura Tree Part 3~~
Itano’s POV
The other day was a weird day and yesterday was weirder. Weird….but in a good way I think. Well, being kissed and confessed to by a cute girl named Kasai Tomo~mi was very unexpected. But what I didn’t expect was for me to actually like her company. She wasn’t only a pretty face and a jolly girl. The time we spent together made me realized she’s also a bright person, especially when in it comes to photography. Her love for pictures amazes me. She always takes photo randomly, saying she finds it cute and that it made her happy. And before I realized something, she already has lots of stolen shots of me, making me blushed as her reason of taking photos rang through my head. Tomo finds me cute and that I made her happy. Somehow, this little realization made me feel warm inside.
Right now I’m inside the library, sitting in a table with my best friend and our other friend Minegishi Minami as I flip the pages of my book. My thoughts filled not about my research project I was working on but by the enigmatic Tomo~mi. The girl left a big impression on me. Her smiling image flashing in my mind making me groaned in frustrations as I can’t concentrate or even start with my schoolwork.
“Oh! Tomochin! Heya!” I looked up and was greeted by the familiar smile of the girl that filled my thoughts lately.
“Oh…hey, Tomo.” I smiled back, finding it now easy to do so. The smile on her face even brightened when she heard my reply. But I was caught off-guard when she suddenly kissed me on my cheek.
From the corner of my eyes, I can see Miichan’s eyes widened while Atsuko frowned.
“W-what…y-you…-” I uttered incoherently as I frantically looked back and forth between my friends and Tomo.
“Your hair’s in a curly style today. Tomochin’s so stylishly cute.” Tomo’s smile never faltered as she complimented my hairstyle for today, disregarding the fact that she just kissed me in front of my friends.
The only thing I can do? I sighed a resigned sigh as I thank her. And as fast as she appeared, it’s as fast as she disappeared. Saying her goodbye after explaining she’s looking for a book, but not without promising to meet up with me later. Now that she’s gone, I turn to my friends to be only welcome by two sets of different inquiring eyes. I shifted on my sit uncomfortably seeing the frown on my best friend’s face.
“That was Kasai Tomo~mi, right? I didn’t know you two know each other.” Miichan said unsurely, her brows knitted as she looked towards the direction where Tomo disappeared.
“Y-yeah…I made friends with her the other day.” I cough lightly to clear my throat. I don’t know but I suddenly felt –
“You two seemed rather close, considering you just made friends with her not long ago.” Atsuko’s monotone voice clearly says she’s not happy. And she said it without looking at me; her eyes solely focus on her book she was browsing randomly.
“It’s nothing like that at all.” She snorted in response as if mocking my answer. Somehow it doesn’t sit well on me why she’s acting kinda bitchy for some unknown reason. I was about to ask what’s her problem when she suddenly looked up, her left brow arched towards me.
“And Tomochin, huh?” She added, a frown forming on her face as she continued to look at me. How should I reply to that? I mean, does Atsuko doesn’t like my new found friendship with Tomo~mi?
“Uhm…everyone knows she steals her friend’s boyfriend. So, I don’t think it’s good if you associate with her, Tomochin.” Miichan interrupted, breaking the unofficial staring contest I had with Atsuko as we turned to look at her instead. She’s saying that about Tomo while using the nickname she made for me? Miichan realized her mistake and she immediately corrected herself when she received a displeased looked from Atsuko.
“Well, I guess it doesn’t matter since you don’t have one right now anyway…” Miichan chuckled, grinning widely at me.
“Still, I don’t like it.” Atsuko muttered, shrugging her shoulders as she moved closer to me. I scowled at her, not liking that my own best friend doesn’t like Tomo~mi. I was about to ask her why, but stop when she brought her left hand up holding a cute pink handkerchief, wiping my cheek.
“She left a kissed mark on your cheek.” She said dryly and moved back. As a reflex my hand automatically shoots up to my cheek where Tomo had kissed me. I felt like blushing when images of us kissing flashed through my mind. I feigned a coughed and grab the book closer to me. The one I was browsing awhile ago as Miichan snickered at me, her grin still in place. I rolled my eyes at her, making her grin widely.
“But seriously, are you sure that’s not some sort of mistake? About Tomo, that is.” I asked after awhile, trying to act like I’m not interested and was just plainly asking.
“Huh? I heard she even made Yukirin cry the other day.” Miichan replied, looking at her expression revealed she doesn’t like Tomo as well.
“….But she was such a nice girl….” I said without thinking, earning disbelief looks from both of my friends.
“What makes you so sure about that? You only know her for days…” Atsuko’s words hit the nail directly. She’s right; I don’t know Tomo that long. But then, why do I feel…happy when I’m with her? Unable to come up a decent answer from my best friend’s remark, I said the first thing that pops on my mind.
“She treated me to lunch the other day, so she’s a good person.” I lightly laughed at my own answer. It sounded so lame and I felt like I was only defending Tomo ‘cause of the food she bought for me.
“Uh-huh, so she’s feeding the animal….” Miichan said lazily as she yawned, glancing at the wall clock that reads 11:45am. I chose not to respond to that since she’s quite right, so the only thing I do was shrug my shoulder and mumble a ‘whatever’.
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t get too involve with her. You don’t know what she might do to hurt you.” It was the pensive voice of my best friend that stops me from glaring at Miichan as the other girl was grinning at me again. And it was also Atsuko’s voice saying those things that bothered me to the extent I never started anything on my schoolwork.

“That’s what she said….is it true?”
I was so bothered at what my friends told me, so here I am. In a café near at our university, having my free lunch courtesy by no other than the cute girl I just met few days ago, Kasai Tomo~mi. The girl who keeps popping into my head without warning. Who most likely bewitched me with her enchanting smile.
‘And seduced you with her endearing yet sweet kiss’My inner self added, reminding me of the incident that would forever engrave in my heart and soul and my mind. Making my cheeks felt warm all of a sudden, and making me choke on the food I was eating.
‘Cough!’ ‘Cough!’“Tomochin, are you alright?” Tomo was suddenly at my side, rubbing my back up and down. Her soft hand touching my back sending shivers all over my body, and her scent suddenly attacking my nose wasn’t helping me calm down from my coughing fit.
“Yeah…I-Im fine.” I said hoarsely, drinking the water she offered.
“Mou…don’t make me worry like that again, Tomochin. I thought my heart was going to explode seeing you hurt and all.”
She pouted at me, her tone scolding me a little as she cupped my right cheek. When our eyes met I was overwhelmed by her presence and close proximity that I have to look away and also to hide my blushing face. I feign a cough as her soft hand left my cheek.
“I’m not hurt….so, were the rumors true?” I reminded her with my earlier question.
“Oh that?” She giggled.
“It’s because my friend’s boyfriends just go and fall for me. Y’know cause I’m so cute.” And she giggled again, cheekily pointing at her face while donning the cutest smile I ever seen. What a brat.
“I see, must be hard being cute and all…” I replied in a bored tone. Somehow hearing the confirmation directly from her, about the rumors which weren’t rumors after all made me feel…irritated?
“…Tomochin, you were supposed to jump in with a witty retort there.” She whined childishly, grabbing my left arm while shaking it. I groaned, rolling my eyes at her as I pry her hands off of me.
“But now that you asked about it, I actually have taken a friend’s boyfriend just so he’d break up with her. That didn’t go well…” I detect no regrets on her voice as she said that, which a frown made its way to appear on my face.
“Obviously! The last time I checked, stealing someone’s boyfriend is a back stabbing bitches’ job.” That came out from my mouth without warning as I glared at her. Her eyes widened in surprised. I bit my lower lip when I saw the sad expression on her face.
“I know…I’m sorry.” Tomo said softly, her eyes downcast as she looks back at me.
“That just happened once, and I swear to myself not to do it again. Do you…do you hate me now, Tomochin?” Her eyes, her eyes were pleading as worry etched to her cute face. Her voice trembling as she asked that. Hate her? My eyes softened at the pain visible in Tomo’s face.
“No, I don’t hate you Tomo.” I replied softly as I can.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Thanks God. I don’t know what to do if you really hate me.” She sighed, slumping her back uncharacteristically on the soft chair were sharing. She closed her eyes as a ghost of a smile appeared on her face.
“Just promised me you won’t do it again.” That is to stop the rumors going around the campus. I know what she did was unforgivable, but people change and you have to give them a chance to renew themselves of-
Suddenly she was up, eyes glinting partnered with a mischievous smile as she leaned closer to me. I stopped myself from moving away, refusing to back down and show that what she’s doing wasn’t affecting me.
“Don’t worry, that won’t happen ever again. Besides, the only one for me now is Tomochin.”
Her voice dropped a couple of decibels, making it sound so sexy to my ears. Her eyes locking with mine I was unable to look away this time. Feeling a déjà vu, like what happened the first time we meet under the Sakura Tree where we shared our first kiss. The thought of it made my heart jump. Is she going to kiss me again?
As her face keeps moving closer, I unconsciously close my eyes. Waiting for those inviting lips to connect to mine….but it never came. Instead, I felt a slight pressure on the tip of my nose, then to my right cheek and finally to my left before she pulled back. Mischievous smile still intact on her face as she looks lovingly at me.
“…I thought we agreed to be just friends?” I asked while scrunching up my nose she just kissed instead of my lips. Whoa…wa-wait, why do I feel frustrated that she didn’t kiss me on the lips? This is bad.
“We are friends…” She giggled cutely, playfully pinching my left cheek. And as you expected, I automatically frowned.
“…It just that…I happen to be in love with you too, Tomochin.” Tomo let out a light girlishly laugh though if you look carefully, she still held that look towards me. The loving and longing look I saw the first time we meet under the Sakura Tree.
“I see…” Was the only reply I could come up while trying to tame the beating of my heart.
Kasai Tomo~mi, we sure do have an interesting friendship. I said to myself as a smile crept to the corner of my lips. Friendship…huh?
