Thinking back about my decision, I'm not too sure if it was the right move to preorder from Toys R Us.  They have generally set their prices higher than stores like Best Buy or Future Shop in the past.  Hmmm, they'll probably jack the price up real high for the bundle too (which is the console, 2 controllers and 2 games).

I think Toys R Us will sell for MSRP. I'm not sure if I'll buy the Wii at launch, maybe I'll wait a few months when more games are released.

A bit OT: I'm going to buy a DS Lite at launch and will most likely get it from that same Toys R Us store. They're not accepting preorders so I'll have to get it in the morning. I hope nobody lines up for it since demand doesn't seem that high, and there's a Best Buy, EB and Wal Mart in the same mall so there should be plenty of stock :)

Cool, didn't realize I had a JPH!P neighbour from the forum.  Yeah, that seems like a good location to pick up the DS Lite from.  I actually live right next to the mall...well almost right next to it...closer to Markville Secondary.  I was planning on picking up the DS Lite from Future Shop but I just used up the 50$ gift card I had so maybe I'll just pick it up from Markville Mall.  I'm just hoping they offer some sort of bundle since I won't have much cash left to buy a game...

In a perfect world, my dream bundle would be the NDS Lite + Super Mario Bros. for about 169$.

i think the prices at toys r us are generally they same as best buy and futureshop. sometomes toyrs r will also lower their game's price to a pretty cheap deal. thats why i go there often to check out games first.

Wii Price, Launch Date Revealed

September 13, 2006 - Nintendo fans finally have a price and release date for the company's new generation console, Wii. The Big N is set to officially announce that the system will hit retail in North and South America for $250 on November 19. The New York Times published with the story and seems, in fact, to have beaten Nintendo Co. Ltd with the news.

Nintendo's Wii console will come packaged with Wii Sports, a compilation sports game that best shows off the mechanics of the system's unique controller. Wii Sports features tennis, baseball, golf and a previously unannounced bowling game.
Nintendo said it would provide Wii owners with more than 25 unique games this year.

Wii's much talked-about Virtual Console download service, which enables gamers to purchase classic games, will offer a library of some 30 titles when the system launches. Titles will include entries from the Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong franchises, Nintendo said. Virtual Console games will cost between $5 and $10 each.

The Big N confirmed that it would charge $50 for its new Wii games, which is $10 cheaper than the cost of standard Xbox 360 titles.

In a surprise announcement, Nintendo said that it wanted to make Wii a living room centerpiece by shipping the system with features outside of the videogame realm. Wil will include a photo channel, enabling users to display their digital photos through the console. It will also boast regularly updated news and weather channels. In addition, the system will ship with the Opera Web browser, enabling users to connect online.

Sony recently announced that it would ready 400,000 PS3s in North America and another 100,000 in Japan for the system's launch. Nintendo said it plans to ship 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of the year.

It's more expensive than expected but I'll probably buy it because someone has to rescue Zelda once again.

From Nintendo's NYC event:
Additional Wii remotes will be $39.99, separate from the nunchuk, which will be an additional $19.99.

So the full controller set will cost $60? That's more than the price of a game :(

Considering the fact that you get a console, controller and free game for around $50 less than a core Xbox 360 (or so I believe), I say it's a pretty fair deal.

$250 US? Ouch. That's around $300 Canadian.

I'll wait till it comes down to $150 (once the PS3 comes out and MS lowers the 360 prices - gotta love competition).

haha i am off to toys r us to pre-order tomorrow. although i wont be getting the first shipment for sure since there are 60+ ppl ahead of me. i am pretty excited about this console now. i am glad i dont need to buy a special wireless router for Wii like i need to for my xbox. virtual console seems awsome, but my only concern is the cost of the games to download.

what games are u guys planning to get at launch? i am planning to get red steel, trauma centre, or maybe zelda/wario if thats a launch title.

btw i am quite surprise few of u guys think the console shouldve been lower in price. i think its fair since it cost about the same as the psp when it first came out.  i think after i buy Wii and all other accessories, it will still cost less than a ps3!!hahaha

Wii March 2007 in Europe?

High street retailer banner drops potentially sphincter-tightening bombshell.
by Matt Wales

UK, September 14, 2006 - Here's some cheerful news to finish off the end of all you European-type's day. UK high street retailer Argos has flipped up a banner on its website, proclaiming, "Nintendo Wii: Launching March 2007". According to eagle-eyed ad-watchers, the banner previously read, "Nintendo Wii: Launching Winter 2006".

While we'd hardly count Argos as the most reliable source for Wii news, it's interesting (not to mention a little worrying) that the store has chosen to update its banner so close to Nintendo's official European Wii launch announcement, set to be made in London tomorrow during a press conference scheduled to begin at 12pm GMT.

Nintendo observers have been quick to point out that Wii launch details released so far seem to mirror the launch of the original DS in 2004, with the US recieving the handheld in November, closely followed by Japan in early December. Of course, that time around, the DS eventually hit Europe in March of the following year - a disturbing omen?

Before we slip on our shrouds and stomp around the garden ringing Nintendo's death knell, it's worth remember that nothing is set in stone until the company lays down its cards tomorrow. Rest assured, we'll be there in force for full, comprehensive coverage. Oh, and we'll also try and steal you all a Wii.

Wii DVD Movie Playback Out

NOA confirms that Wii will not play Hollywood DVD movies.
by Matt Casamassina

September 14, 2006 - Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies. The decision to remove the functionality was made in order to deliver the machine at a cheaper cost and because most people today already own DVD players.

Still refusing to call it the Wii, but at least the zapper gun that the system will use looks decent.  Almost looks like a shortened Winchester like they'd have in those old western movies.

Nintendo.ca quotes the Canadian MSRP to be $279.95. Although it's not cheap, it looks like they're not gonna try to hit us with a ridiculous exchange rate.
